Stella, Stella, Stella…

Is this a Brando quote from "A Streetcar Named Desire?" A video computer system? A Comedy Central show? A trio of fantastic folk-art felines created by award-winning artist Devon Cameron? You got it! It's all about Devon's Stella cats who desire nothing more than an opportunity to charm visitors at the New York International Gift Fair to be held at the Javits Center on January 28, 29, 30, 31, and February 1.

Sugar Loaf, New York (PRWEB) January 18, 2007 -- Is this a Brando quote from "A Streetcar Named Desire?" A video computer system? A Comedy Central show? A trio of fantastic folk-art felines created by award-winning artist Devon Cameron?

You got it! It's all about Devon's Stella cats who desire nothing more than an opportunity to charm visitors at the New York International Gift Fair to be held at the Javits Center on January 28, 29, 30, 31, and February 1.

Each Stella in this collection is fashioned from seven different types of hard-shelled gourds and embellished with dried leaves and flowers. Each is handmade by the artist (with some help from Mother Nature) in her Sugar Loaf, New York studio. And each projects a style and "cattitude" that will bring a smile and place her high on any collector's list. These whimsical, museum-quality works are large as life measuring 20 to 26 inches from their gourd-bud noses to their curled tails. Fiercely independent, meticulously clean, and eager to delight, these ladies never unsheathe their pine-cone claws or trigger an allergy. All natural, quintessentially feminine, and sassy to their seedy core, these cats are a must see. Devon's "Stella" collection is sharing a booth this year with the artist's Gourdament line, a patented and popular assortment sold in many museum shops and in over 400 gift shops in the US and Canada. These hanging ornaments take the form of cat, dog, cow, pig, snowman, and rooster. This year three more whimsical creatures have joined the group: turtles, penguins, and frogs.

Two other gourd artists exhibiting at Devon's booth are Eli Smucker, an Amish farmer from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, who offers his beautifully wrought apple bird houses, and Wairimu Muniu, a Kenyan UN Aid for Food worker, who, through Fair Trade, brings gorgeous hand-carved gourd ornaments produced by the people of the Kamba ethnic groups of Kenya, East Africa.

For additional information about Devon and her work, please visit www.gourdaments.com or visit her shop, The Gourd Gallery, at 1364 Kings Highway, Sugar Loaf, NY 10981.
