New Documentary Examines NESARA Conspiracy Theory
"Waiting For NESARA" - a new documentary about a group of ex-Mormons awaiting the announcement of a secret law which they believe will abolish the IRS, remove George Bush from office, expose him as a reptilian alien, and install a UFO-flying Jesus Christ as America's new leader - was released on DVD today.
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) January 17, 2007 -- "Waiting For NESARA" - a new documentary about a group of ex-Mormons awaiting the announcement of a secret law which they believe will abolish the IRS, remove George Bush from office, expose him as a reptilian alien, and install a UFO-flying Jesus Christ as America's new leader - was released on DVD today.
Zeb and Elisa Haradon, the filmmakers, found the group holding weekly meetings in the back room of a local Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Salt Lake City a few months after September 11th, 2001. Like many people, the group was seeking an explanation for what had happened on that day. Calling themselves The Open Mind Forum, the group was claiming that President Bush had staged the attacks himself because a new secret law called "NESARA" was scheduled to be announced that day, and he used the attacks as a diversion to delay its announcement.
Guided by a host of online conspiracy theorists, the group had become convinced that NESARA - the National Economic Stabilization And Recovery Act - had been signed into law in secret during the Clinton presidency, but was not scheduled to be implemented or announced until September 2001. The law's provisions and effects were supposed to include the abolishment of the IRS, the freeing of billions of dollars in hidden funds for the poor, first contact with a plethora of alien races, the return of Jesus Christ (in a UFO), the resignation of the US government, and the exposure of George W. Bush as a "reptilian alien" allied with the Illuminati and bent on the enslavement of the world.
The Haradons filmed the group for over a year, as the war with Iraq approached in March 2003. The group believed that Bush was planning that war to further delay NESARA, and as the war's inevitability became more and more certain each day, the group's meetings began to take on a more apocalyptic tone, with their online prophets informing them that UFO allies would announce their presence and intervene to prevent the war.
Despite the group's unusual beliefs, the film does not hold them up for mockery, but simply observes quietly, a stance praised by many reviewers, "The Haradons humanized their subjects, and when the film ended I simply thought: 'Wow, these are nice people. They've found purpose in their lives. And they're cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs'." wrote one reviewer, David Johnson (dvdverdict.com). During the one-on-one interviews with the group members which appear in the film, many members of the group discuss their path starting in the Mormon church, through excommunication from that church, and finally arriving at The Open Mind Forum.
The film has played at a number of film festivals in Australia, Switzerland, and The United States. It won the award for "Best Comedy Documentary" at The 2006 Atlanta International Documentary Festival, and was named the movie of the year for 2006 by the website badlit.com.
