We know it as Silly String or Fun Crazy String, but our soldiers call it a life saver. The plastic goo like substance is being used by our soldiers to discover the location of often hard to see trip wires which have been planted by insurgent bomb makers. Soldiers' Angels' and OperationGive.Org are pulling together to Ship Silly String to the Troops.

Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) January 19, 2007 -- Sometimes the most difficult problems require the simplest of solutions. The problem is one faced by our soldiers and Marines who are battling an urban insurgency in Iraq - hidden trip wires and booby traps. The solution is silly or crazy depending upon the manufacturer. We know it as Silly String or Fun Crazy String, but our soldiers call it a life saver. The plastic goo like substance is being used by our soldiers to discover the location of often hard to see trip wires which have been planted by insurgent bomb makers. When sprayed into a room or area with trip wires, the light weight and highly visible string will hang or suspend on the trip wires without detonating them. When sprayed into a room without trip wires the string falls harmlessly to the floor.
   
While effective, the remedy is unconventional, low tech, and certainly not part of the armed force's regular arsenal. This results in another problem for the soldiers - obtaining the helpful cans of gooey string. The solution to this problem is also, simple but not quite as unconventional - simply ask for it.
   
A non-profit organization, Soldiers' Angels, has set out to answer these requests. The purpose of the organization is to provide aid and comfort to our military personnel and their families. As part of its operations, Soldiers' Angels pairs soldiers with Americans who are stateside and who essentially adopt the soldier. Being such an Angel can involve something as simple as sending correspondence a few times a month to the soldier to sending care packages filled with items that are not always available during deployment. One of the largest requests that have been received from the soldiers has been the request for the crazy string. The problem is mailing the cans which contain compressed air.
   
Once again a simple solution - Chief Wiggles of OperationGive.Org. Chief Wiggles, as Paul Holton is affectionately known, has become notorious for his ability to ship huge amounts of supplies to the troops. So the first person that Soldiers' Angels founder, Patti Bader, thought to call was Chief Wiggles. By working together the two organizations will be sending shipping container full of the stringy detection devices to our troops who are deployed in Iraq. Soldiers' Angels will be providing the funding to purchase the string and OperationGive.Org will be providing the shipping expertise. Simple solutions to difficult problems. Soldiers' Angels is such an organization. In the summer of 2003 Patti Patton-Bader was inspired to found Soldiers' Angels when her son wrote home from Iraq expressing his concern that some soldiers did not receive any mail or support from home. Within a few short months Soldiers' Angels had grown from a mother writing a few extra letters to an Internet Community with tens of thousands of angels worldwide.
      
Continuing the time honored tradition of civilian support of American soldiers, Soldiers' Angels sponsors programs which provide support to American soldiers and their families. Soldiers' Angels' programs include first responder packs, support, and laptop computers to wounded soldiers who are receiving treatment at American military hospitals; care packages, letters, and support to deployed soldiers; armored blankets to military ambulances; items shipped for deployed soldiers to give children in the war zone; and memorial trees for the families of soldiers who have died in the service of their country.

Operation Give is a humanitarian organization that ships toys, medicine, and educational supplies to children in war-torn and devastated nations throughout the world.
