Wounded Service Men and Women to Get Gourmet Valentines America Gives a Luscious "I love you"

"It is amazing how many of our soldiers do not get mail or packages from family or friends," Patton explained. "These donations are to ensure that, on a day where we traditionally tell our loved ones how much we care, thousands of our wounded Service Members get that same message from Americans who appreciate their sacrifice."

Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) January 29, 2007 -- Wounded Service Members home from battle will receive a little something special from appreciative Americans this Valentines day: gourmet desserts. Soldiers' Angels, a support organization founded by Patti Patton, niece of General George Patton, has announced it is teaming with the Santa Clarita gourmet dessert company, Dessert Alert!, to deliver thousands of delicious chocolate chip cookies to patients at VA Hospitals across the country.

"It is amazing how many of our soldiers do not get mail or packages from family or friends," Patton explained. "These donations are to ensure that, on a day where we traditionally tell our loved ones how much we care, thousands of our wounded Service Members get that same message from Americans who appreciate their sacrifice."

Patton founded Soldiers' Angels in 2003 after her own son wrote home from home from Iraq. She was stunned and saddened by his report that many of our Service Members do not receive communications from back home, so she set out to correct the situation. She began writing letters to these troops herself, and then enlisted the aid of others. She appeared on radio talk shows and read the heart-warming responses from soldiers who received gifts and packages from these friends - or "Angels" - that they didn't know were there for them.

Before long, Soldiers' Angels had become a thriving internet community (www.soldiersangels.com) with thousands of members worldwide who send mail overseas, and support stateside veterans with personal visits, phone calls and backpacks filled with needed items.

"Dessert Alert! is proud to team up with Soldiers' Angels to create a special Valentine's Day for our wounded soldiers, " enthuses Jill Jackson, CEO of Dessert Alert! (www.dessertalert.com). "We anticipate being able to deliver thousands of sweets to troops who may otherwise feel forgotten."

Soldiers' Angels will deliver the gourmet desserts to patients and their caregivers at Veteran's Hospitals. The tasty delights will also go to the residents and staff at Fisher Houses - "homes away from home" for family members whose Service Members are in VA Hospitals - and, if funding allows, incoming soldiers at Ramstein Air Base in Germany where the wounded are first billeted upon return from Iraq. Orders need to be received by February 8 in order to reach soldiers by Valentines Day.

In addition, anyone who calls in and chooses to send their own loved ones (whether or not they are members of the US Armed Services) gifts from Dessert Alert!'s extensive assortment of cookies, brownies, lemon bars and more, Dessert Alert! will donate a portion of those proceeds to Soldier's Angels as well.

Funds for the project will come from donations, and Patton is aggressively seeking contributions. As Soldiers' Angels is a non-profit 501C3 organization, all contributions are tax-deductible.
