Eros, Loneliness and Greek Nostalgia in New CD

Artists donate CD-launch money to Greek Educational Organisation.

(PRWEB) January 31, 2007 -- Love, nostalgia and loneliness are the prominent emotions in the new CD REFRACTION, a Chroma Musika (Montreal) and Music Mirror (Athens) co-production.

With unique finesse, composer Hrysanthos Mouzakitis from Greece has set 12 poems of Vasos Vogiatzoglou to music arranged for a small symphonic ensemble, piano and classical voice. Montrealers of Greek descent Maria Diamantis, soprano and Dimitris Ilias, tenor interpret the art songs.

Loneliness is the blind man that has fallen asleep in the serenity of an August night ...

The experiences of the poet as a member of "Doctors Without Borders" and the life challenges of the composer, handicapped in childhood by polio, infuse sensitivity into the new work while the bright voice of Soprano Maria Diamantis and the velvety color of tenor Dimitris Ilias add warmth.

Violinist Theodore Mouzakitis, with his lush sound, leads the Symphonic Ensemble of the Greek National Conservatory, joined by pianist Sophia Petridis.

REFRACTION was also a recording studio collaboration since the singers were recorded by Dr. Mark Corwin at Oscar Peterson Concert Hall, Concordia University, while the recording of the instruments and the final mix was done by Kostas Arniotis of Studio 111 in Athens.

The CD launch will take place at 6:00 p.m. on the 18th of February in Montreal at the Hellenic Community Center, 5777 Wilderton.

Greek Consul General Mrs. Maria Karnoutsou will be the guest of honor while the composer with his wife are flying in from Greece to participate. The net profits of the sales of the CD during the launch will be donated to the Socrates Educational Foundation. Admission is free and there will be wine and cheese following the event.

The CD can be purchased from a variety of music outlets such as: Greek Music Video, Indiepool.com, Puretracks, HMV, Amazon.ca etc.
