World Poker Association Planning for Major Tournament in 2008

The World Poker Association plans inaugural poker tournament as global reach and membership escalates.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) October 6, 2007 -- The World Poker Association (WPA) is making plans for a major poker tournament in conjunction with its first annual meeting and educational conference slated for spring 2008. Although a venue has not yet been finalized, the Board of Directors of the World Poker Association has committed to "creating tournaments that will showcase the highest level of professionalism in the organization and execution of the competitions."

According to WPA Chairman Jesse Jones, "The best way for the World Poker Association to promote professionalism, sportsmanship, and ethical play in poker is to have a tournament that is run according to the spirit and guidelines of the association."

Jones added, "It's clear from our presence at the WSOP and at the WSOP-Europe that the vast majority of poker players strongly support the WPA's goals, and look forward to competing in tournaments that are professionally planned and managed. We've watched our membership grow on both sides of the Atlantic, and the vast majority of players we talk to are interested in having the WPA serve as the voice of the worldwide poker community in the promotion of professionalism in tournaments around the globe."

During a recent meeting of the WPA's board of directors in London--the first time this group met outside of the United States -- two newly elected directors were announced.

Thomas Kremser will chair the WPA's Tournament Rules and Dealer Relations Committee. Kremser is Chief Executive Officer of TK Poker Events International and has organized and overseen hundreds of televised tournaments in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean Islands.

Paul Wasicka, runner-up in the 2006 World Series of Poker main event and winner of the 2007 NBC National Heads-Up Championship, will co-chair the WPA's Membership Committee with Joe Hachem.

With Wasicka and Kremser the WPA board takes on a global look, mirroring the organization it serves. Of the nine board members, six are from the United States, two -- Thomas Kremser and Marcel Luske--are European, and Joe Hachem is Australian.
