One Dozen Lions at World Class Big Game Trophy Mount & Western Auction

One dozen Lions and an ivory collection from a famous French Quarter store are among thousands of rustic décor items and taxidermy mounts up for auction this weekend in Fort Worth. The trophy items are from the private collections of world-renowned big game hunters Brad Yonker, Jack Upchurch and Darrell Mitchell along with numerous mounts from a national natural history museum.

Fort Worth, Texas (PRWEB) October 6, 2007 -- One dozen Lions and an ivory collection from a famous French Quarter store are among thousands of décor items and taxidermy mounts up for auction this weekend in Fort Worth. The trophy items are from the private collections of world-renowned big game hunters Brad Yonker, Jack Upchurch and Darrell Mitchell along with numerous mounts from a national natural history museum.

There are many Safari Club Record Book mounts, a dozen African Lion mounts, three leopards and two elephant shoulder mounts.
The sale is the largest and finest quality of taxidermy mounts ever sold by John Brommel, sale organizer and owner of the Corner Shoppe in Austin. Of the 700 taxidermy mounts in the sale, there are over 50 full body mounts plus many record mounts such as Boone & Crockett White Tail Deer, Elk, Moose and Mule Deer. "These are unbelievable collections," said Brommel. "There are many Safari Club Record Book mounts, a dozen African Lion mounts, three leopards and two elephant shoulder mounts."

The ivory collection is from the estate of the late Jim Doughty, former owner of Lord Jim's which was in the French Quarter on Royal Street in New Orleans for many years. The huge collection of intricately carved ivory figurines, décor pieces and tusks is said to be the largest collection of ivory to be sold at one time.

The western furniture and décor items include framed art, bronze sculptures, trunks, coffee tables, blankets, bar stools, metal art, wagon wheels, antler chandeliers, lamps, cowboy and Indian collectibles, antlers and horns--perfect for rustic style home or establishment. Also excellent for decorating are Eel and Snake skins, Alpaca and Lion rugs, Zebra skins, Wolf and Bear skin rugs, Mountain Lion rugs, Cow hides and Giraffe skulls.

A great collection of pre-Columbian artifacts such as bowls, pottery and statues; and Native American jewelry will also go on the auction block. Other collectibles include firearms, knives, swords and spears.

The taxidermy items in the auction represent hundreds of species even include full sizes of a number of animals such as Bear, Buffalo and Tiger. Other categories are freshwater and saltwater fish mounts, bird mounts such as pheasant, quail and peacock. There will be Moose and Longhorn shoulder mounts, African animals including Zebra, Nile Lechwe, Wildebeest, Hippo, Cape Buffalo, Gemsbok, Sable, Oryx, Black Buck, Water Buck, Kudu, Ibex plus North American and other animals such as Big Horn Sheep, Bobcats, Porcupine, Austrian Opossum, Artic Fox, Warthog, Wolverine, and for the first time in the history of the auction, a sloth.

The general public can preview items for sale on Thursday, October 11th at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, 1 Amon Carter Square, Exhibits Building 1, from noon-5 p.m. and Friday, October 12 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The two-day auction is Friday, starting at 12 p.m., and Saturday, October 13 starting at 10 a.m. The auction runs until about 7 p.m. each day.
