Moviestorm Collaborates With the United Nations

Moviestorm™ officially announces its collaboration with the United Nations Millennium Campaign to help promote the "Stand Up and Speak Out" campaign, a global movement of citizens who are demanding an end to poverty.

Cambridge, GB (PRWEB) October 10, 2007 -- Moviestorm™ officially announces its collaboration with the United Nations Millennium Campaign to help promote the "Stand Up and Speak Out" campaign, a global movement of citizens who are demanding an end to poverty.

On October 16-17, 2007, the world will literally and symbolically "Stand Up" to demand governments live up to their promise to end poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals, as set out at the UN General Assembly in September, 2000. Last year, 23.5 million people stood up against poverty and set a new Guinness World Record.

"Moviestorm is proud to support the United Nations in this campaign," says Ann Garner, Director of Marketing at Moviestorm. "We want to encourage people to starting to using Moviestorm to express social and political ideas. Moviestorm uses game technology and has a game-style interface, but it's not a game; it's a new way to make movies, and a powerful form of creative expression. All the user needs is a voice and something to say. Moviestorm is about the democratisation of film: freedom to animate, freedom to distribute, freedom to narrate."

Moviestorm's mission is to discover a new wave of talented filmmakers and storytellers from around the world and provide them with an outlet for their creativity. Moviestorm has only been in beta development for a few months and has already attracted some amazingly talented filmmakers into their community. The movies created for the "Stand Up" campaign clearly demonstrate the software.

Martin Munthe creator of "Spoof Movie Trailer" said "I had a really hectic time preparing for an upcoming film market sales event but the idea of working with a tool like Moviestorm and for a cause like this was something I really wanted to do. I hope the films communicate the idea of standing up and speaking out in a way that triggers people in an entertaining way."

"It's a worthy cause, and I was intrigued by the guidelines published in the UN's online call for help from moviemakers." Said Frank Fox creator of "No More Running"

Tom Jantol creator of the "The Mechanism" said, "Ann Garner asked me to create a movie for "Stand Up" because she said she wanted to support this campaign with Movie storm's most talented machinimators. She was eager to support Stand up, as well as showcase the power of political machinima to the world. I was flattered and delighted to be able to support "Stand Up" and to show the world that machinima is a very powerful form of creative expression."

"I have always seen machinima, the most democratic form of filmmaking, as a tool for effecting sociopolitical change, so the Stand Up Against Poverty campaign was right up my alley." Said Matthew Hahn creator of "Stand up against Poverty"

Moviestorm CEO David Bailey says, "Moviestorm would like to say a huge thank you to the individual moviemakers who stood up to this appeal, with both their time and their talent: Machinima is continually evolving; love of machinima has already spread widely beyond the gaming community. Subgenres like music videos and political machinima are now gaining recognition. In the hands of some of the most experienced machinima makers in the world, people are finally discovering what machinima can do and we are delighted to be able to collaborate with the United Nations on this campaign."
