St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) October 10, 2007 -- Scholastic Instructor magazine has announced its 2007 "Teachers' Pick" in the area of Assistive Technology and Reading Supplements - and AbleNet and Weekly Reader are pleased to announce that eight out of eight of the magazine's teacher-reviewers gave the Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions a glowing review, unanimously calling the publications "Best for Saving Time on Special Lessons."

Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions debuted this fall. They are classroom periodicals specifically designed for students with moderate to severe disabilities using picture symbols. AbleNet, long known for its expertise in the development of research-based curricula and assistive technologies for special education classrooms, developed the publications in partnership with Weekly Reader, one of the country's most respected publishers of materials for elementary and secondary schools. The three Weekly Reader publications now available in AbleNet adaptations are Weekly Reader Edition 2, Current Health 1, and Know Your World EXTRA.

The reviewers of the magazines were very enthusiastic about its benefits for teachers. "Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions will save time, as teachers usually need to create alternative versions of written material with picture symbol support," noted "Teachers' Pick" judge Brenda Britton.

Kathy Enselein added, "This product will reduce time needed to create curriculum specific to the population of mild to significantly cognitively impaired, while addressing content standards in meaningful and relevant ways."

A classroom subscription to Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions includes the standard edition Weekly Reader print publication, the teacher's guide, specially designed content for students with moderate and severe disabilities, lesson reproducibles, student worksheets and activities, picture symbols from Boardmaker® and the Action Dictionary to help teachers integrate differentiated instruction.

When presented with the news that Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions had been honored as a Scholastic Instructor "Teachers' Pick" for 2007, AbleNet CEO Jen Thalhuber said, "Receiving positive reviews from teachers is the highest compliment we could ever hope for. This is a product we're extremely proud to offer. Whether it's used in regular inclusion classrooms, self-contained special education classrooms, or by parents who home school their children, the Weekly Reader AbleNet Editions have been met with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. We simply couldn't ask for anything more and we are truly honored to have been named a "Teachers' Pick."
