Paddlefest 2007 Hosted By The Texas River School Austin's Water-Based Environmental Leadership Program For At-Risk Youth

Non-profit celebrates 10 years and 4000 Austin kids on the water with a music filled gala featuring Austin's hometown favorite Iconoclast and country performer Dale Watson and His Lone Stars.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) October 19, 2007 -- The Texas River School announces inaugural Paddlefest 2007 event to be held on Sunday, November 4, 2007 from 6:00pm -10:00pm at the historic Scholz Garten in Austin. All ages welcome for a fun filled evening of live music, live and silent auction and plenty of dancing and refreshments. Texas River School hopes to raise $30,000 from this year's event. All funds raised will directly benefit the Texas River School program which aims to put 400 underprivileged youth through its educational program next year. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Purchase tickets at www.texasriverschool.org or dial (512) 467-7799.

For over ten years, underprivileged elementary and middle school children have taken to the water and learned first hand about water safety and canoeing while also learning to understand their impact on the environment. "Not only did I witness children who were academically struggling at our school take leadership roles during this trip, I watched them as they successfully participated in problem solving and critical thinking activities that just blew me away!" said Claudia M. Santamaria, principle at J.J. Pickle Elementary.

Not only did I witness children who were academically struggling at our school take leadership roles during this trip, I watched them as they successfully participated in problem solving and critical thinking activities that just blew me away!
More than 30 Austin schools have sent at-risk youths through the Texas River School program. According to Joe Kendall, executive director and founder of Texas River School, "My life work has been to do my part to protect Texas' rivers and streams. Texas River School programs provide a simple and cost efficient solution that engages at-risk children at an age when they are most receptive to learning a fun skill. At the same time these youth become aware of their role in the larger environment. We believe that kids who grow up with this knowledge will protect our resources in the future."

Join Texas River School on Sunday, November 4th at the legendary Scholz Garten located at 1607 San Jacinta Boulevard in Austin. Doors open at 6:00pm with live music, live and silent auction, refreshments and a cash bar. Headliner, Dale Watson and His Lone Stars perform beginning at 8:30pm. Purchase tickets or make a donation at www.texasriverschool.org or dial (512) 467-7799.

About Us
The Texas River School, Austin's only water-based environmental leadership program for at-risk youth, has inspired more than 4,000 participants since its creation 10 years ago. In 1991, TRS Founder and Executive Director Joe Kendall launched The Chautauqua Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) to protect Texas' rivers and streams. Kendall created the Texas River School when he saw the need to combine outdoor education with nutrition and health information. For more information, please visit www.texasriverschool.org
