Fascinating New Light on Little Big Horn and Custer

Recently uncovered records show fascinating new material about the battle at the Little Big Horn

(PRWEB) October 20, 2007 -- History Publishing Company (www.historypublishingco.com) has agreed to publish the new work of John Koster, tentatively titled "Custer Survivor." It has been recorded in official government records that no U.S. Army soldier survived at the battle at the Little Big Horn. Recently uncovered records in the files of a Wisconsin museum reveal that one trooper, a sergeant in "C" Company of the Seventh Cavalry, actually escaped the onslaught of Sioux and Cheyenne Indians at the great battle. John Koster, known for his strict adherence to detail, has tracked the man and his activity during the battle and has brought them together in "Custer Survivor."

It has been indicated by The Library of Congress that more books have been published about the battle at the Little Big Horn than any other battle involving American combatants. It is readily acknowledged that the action with the Seventh Cavalry and the Sioux and Cheyenne has captured the American interest more than any other engagement in American history. John Koster in "Custer Survivor "will have important new data for the Custer reader and the historian.

The Road to Wounded Knee

The book's publication date is set for early summer. James McPherson will write the Foreword and Professor Louise Barnett, a fellow of the Rutgers Center for Historical Analysis, Rutgers University, will write the Introduction.

John Koster, the distinguished author of works dealing with the American Indian is known for his thorough knowledge of Native American history which has been translated into German, Czech, Russian and Japanese. His first book, "The Road to Wounded Knee" (Bantam, 1974) won the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Distinguished Public Service for his personal coverage and analytical research into the American Indian Movement. He has also written about American Indians for the British Marshall Cavendish syndicate and for the magazine "Wild West" as well as "American Heritage" and the British Magazine "War Monthly." His other works include the American Civil War for "Civil War Times illustrated," the clash of cultures on the Pacific Rim for "American History" with Japanese translations by his wife, award winning children's editor, Shizuko Obo and Korean translator Minjae Kim.

Formerly an adjunct professor at Ramapo State College where he taught writing for publication, John Koster is fluent in German, French, Italian, Spanish and marginal Lakota. He is a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army.
