Chicago Afrobeat Project to Host and Perform at Two Halloween CD Release Celebrations at Martyrs' in Chicago on Oct. 27
Chicago Afrobeat Project celebrates the release of its new album, (A) Move to Silent Unrest (CAbP Music, 2007), with two CD release celebrations in its hometown on Saturday, October 27 at Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 23, 2007 -- Chicago Afrobeat Project (www.chicagoafrobeatproject.com) celebrates the release of its new album, (A) Move to Silent Unrest (CAbP Music, 2007), with two CD release celebrations in its hometown on Saturday, October 27 at Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave. The first event, an all-ages celebration, begins at 7 p.m. followed by a 21+ performance at 10 p.m. Both performances will feature on-stage African dance from the CAbP dancers, on-stage "live art" from Chicago artist Chadwick, and competitive costume contests.
A portion of the events ticket sales and album sales benefits Journalists Against AIDS Nigeria (JAAIDS), a non-profit organization based in Lagos, Nigeria that develops creative communication programs to help combat the spread of AIDS in Nigeria.

If the new album (A) Move to Silent Unrest is any indication of the Chicago Afrobeat Project's future musical direction, fans and critics alike can look forward to contagious songs that simultaneously pay reverence to the afrobeat tradition while insisting the genre remain agile enough to push beyond its borders. On the new release, proficient soloists lead the band on uncharted musical journeys while the music's inherent orchestrated twists take listeners on a musical trip from the Windy City to Lagos with a stop in Havana along the way.
The original tracks for (A) Move to Silent Unrest were recorded in 2006 at a studio in Andersonville on the north side of Chicago. The band's idea was to maintain the raw energy and attitude of the CAbP live performance while taking advantage of the robust musical editing tools found in today's digital recording studios. All seven tracks were recorded straight to 2-inch tape, giving the album a vintage sound heard throughout the classic afrobeat recordings of the '60s and '70s. In a series of additional recording and mixing sessions, the group layered jazz-inspired solos and additional percussion tracks to give the album the fullest sound.
Echoes of hip-hop and Chicago house music found in the group's debut self titled album (2005) can also be heard in the new album on tracks such as Superstar Pt. 7 and Carcass. On the Latin-influenced Chupacabra, CAbP demonstrates what afrobeat might sound like if recorded in Cuba. Rounding out the album's highlights, special guest appearances by vocalist Ugochi on the controversial Media Man shows the group's agility to dip into R&B, while jazz guitar great Bobby Broom guest appearance on the heavy-hitting Cloister adds both warmth and plenty of chops to the tune.
ABOUT THE ALBUM ARTWORK
The first limited edition run of (A) Move to Silent Unrest CDs from CAbP Music includes a fold-out poster of painting by Fela Kuti's primary album designer, G. Lemi. Entitled Lagos Sitty, the painting has been integrated into CAbP's album cover as if it were spray-painted on a wall near Fulton Market in Chicago's meat-packing district, while a woman stares in awe of the mural. The album art resembles the fusion of Lagos and Chicago, as does the music on (A) Move to Silent Unrest.
