osted by recording artists Ivan Parker and Janet Paschal, and long-time record industry executive and TV personality Bill Traylor, the special will feature appearances and performances by a combination of noteworthy up-and-comers as well as established groups such as the Booth Brothers, Kim Hopper, The Perrys, and the Kingdom Heirs.

Southern Gospel music continues to flourish because it crosses generations
“The Singing News Fan Awards is one of the most celebrated events among Southern Gospel music lovers,” said Ron Shuping, Executive Vice President of programming for INSP’s parent company, The Inspiration Ministries. “This event honors those who sing Southern Gospel music, and the influence these artists have on the millions of fans who love their music. Thousands of these people read Singing News Magazine each month. And they all come together once a year in Louisville for a time to celebrate, packing out Freedom Hall night after night. It is our privilege to bring the excitement of this great event to the nation.”

Shuping also said that it has been a privilege for The Inspiration Ministries to continue working closely with the National Quartet Convention and Singing News Magazine on the program. “These awards are a major event. We’ve upgraded every element to give this the stature and quality it deserves.” Shuping said the changes include new graphics, trophies, and categories that have been streamlined to help improve the quality of the program and the voting process. “We believe that this year’s show is the best ever.”

Jim Cumbee, publisher of Singing News Magazine and co-executive producer of the show, credits INSP for raising this year’s production to a new level. “It was an honor to work with the team from INSP,” said Cumbee. “A lot of the work that went into this year’s broadcast took place before the actual show itself. We created a template for a long-term relationship that will make the broadcast better as we progress.”

During the show, newly designed trophies will be awarded in a number of categories, among them Favorite Female and Male Singer; Favorite Young Artist; Group of the Year; Favorite Songwriter; and Favorite Album. Winners were selected by readers of Singing News Magazine. The Inspirations, Brian Free and Assurance, the Mark Trammell Trio, Legacy Five, The McKameys, and Triumphant Quartet are just some of the artists set to perform. The show will conclude with a “passing of the torch” performance by Southern Gospel legends Gerald Williams, Buddy Burton, Ed Hill, Bill Baize, and Darrell Stewart to a new generation of artists.

“Southern Gospel music continues to flourish because it crosses generations,” said Cumbee. “There are opportunities for fan/artist interactions in this genre that creates a great deal of loyalty for people of all ages. This is what makes Southern Gospel so special.”
