Recently selected by the Orlando Sentinel readers as their favorite weekend getaway, St. Augustine is popular with art lovers during its "First Friday Art Walk" weekends.

The Art Walk takes place from 5-9 pm on the First Friday of each month, rain or shine. Visitors can enjoy light refreshments, music and exhibits.

The First Friday Art Walk is the start of a weekend that features the latest exhibit openings in more than 20 of the city's finest art galleries. Each St. Augustine art gallery hosts a free open house that offers visitors a chance to look at the latest art collection while enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Local artists are often in attendance to talk about their work. Combined with live music performed at numerous locations, the Art Walk always becomes a lively and colorful street festival.

Participants can enjoy free parking starting at 5 pm at the San Sebastian Winery, 157 King Street and visit eight nearby galleries due to the generosity of St. Augustine Sightseeing Trains and Old Town Trolley Tours.

Free narrated tours aboard these trains reveal the Spanish Colonial, Moorish Revival, Victorian and American Gothic architecture of this unique city. The trains pick up at Butterfield Garage & Rembrandtz Galleries on King Street, starting at 6 pm and run about every 15 minutes to visit other participating galleries during the event. Maps for the self-guided tours are available at participating galleries.

Upcoming dates for First Friday Art Walks are November 2 and December 7. For a complete listing of St. Augustine events, along with events in Ponte Vedra and The Beaches, including details on accommodations, dining and attractions visit http://www.getaway4florida.com or call 1.800.653.2489.
