atasha Carlish's film Birmingham: The Creative City focuses on a small number of creative individuals and partners in order to examine their personal stories and journeys. The film includes the story of poet Giovanni 'Spoz' Esposito and his path to becoming Birmingham's poet laureate for 2006 - 07, and his personal account of how the Equal II: The Last Mile programme changed his life. The film can be viewed on the Creative Compass website.

This work has clearly demonstrated the contribution which creative people can bring to the economic development of the city. They can also make Birmingham a more exciting place to live and work. I hope people will be inspired to make their own creative journey when they see the film.
Co-ordinated by Birmingham City Council's Creative Development Team and funded by the European Social Fund, Equal II: The Last mile runs until February 2008 and to-date has engaged over 400 individual artists and creative businesses and 18 partner organisations across Birmingham. The programme, and the creative industries, have made a significant contribution to Birmingham's economy through employment and improved quality of life.

Talking about the impact of the programme, Paul Cantrill, Head of Creative Development at Birmingham City Council said: "This work has clearly demonstrated the contribution which creative people can bring to the economic development of the city. They can also make Birmingham a more exciting place to live and work. I hope people will be inspired to make their own creative journey when they see the film."

Working in partnership with Birmingham City Council, Audiences Central has developed the Creative Compass campaign to highlight the innovative approaches that have been piloted by the partner organisations and to illustrate the legacy of investment within the city's creative sector.
