PassmoreLab Travels To Ancient City
Team films Petra in 3D.
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) November 9, 2007 -- It's difficult to convey the size and experience of visiting Petra through traditional photos and video. That's why San Diego-based PassmoreLab decided to film the ancient city in 3D.
Located in a remote part of southwestern Jordan, Petra is an entire city hewn of rock by ancient civilizations. Temples, dwellings, altars and nearly 3000 tombs have been chiseled by hand into sandstone cliffs. Described by UNESCO as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage" the city was designated a World Heritage Site in 1985.
People familiar with Petra through reading about it are only familiar with an extremely small portion of what Petra is. According to PassmoreLab President, Greg Passmore, "Petra is really best appreciated in 3D because of the massive size and epic proportions. Petra itself is vast and it takes a tremendous amount of time and energy to see it. The size of the structures is intimidating and overwhelming. 3D provides one of the best ways to capture that space. We're excited about bringing that space and immersion of the ancient city to our viewers."
The PassmoreLab film crew found themselves immersed in Petra's space and culture throughout the expedition. Suffering through 117 degree heat while riding grumpy camels, the team lugged hundreds of pounds of camera gear through the desert to shoot the incredible location. The team experience did not end there but also included becoming involved in classic Bedouin negotiation over tea in a nomadic tribe's tent.
Despite the heat and other difficulties, the team is enthusiastic about the adventure. "This is an absolutely incredible experience being able to film in a such a remote and difficult to access location," said Passmore. "The experience of using camels to assist in carrying equipment was certainly unforgettable."
PassmoreLab is involved in producing a variety of documentaries specializing in exceptionally difficult locations scattered around the planet. Check out their "Inner Earth" series at www.innerearth.tv for an example of the kinds of intense filming that PassmoreLab is involved in.
