Inspiration Goes Online and Finds a New Home with BiggyTV
BiggyTV has launched a multi-channel online network for the Seventh-Day Adventist North American Division providing global distribution of original inspiration content. This signifies the first time that an online video network will distribute inspirational programming for an entire denomination.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 14, 2007 - BiggyTV, a broadband video entertainment and shopping network, announced the launch of The Adventist Channel powered by BiggyTV. This signifies the first time that an online video network will distribute inspirational programming for an entire denomination.
As the online video market continues to explode, millions of Internet users still haven't found content they can relate to and watch on a daily basis. Of the 57 million online video viewers, only 10% watch news or comedy programming on a daily basis.
"Our goal with BiggyTV has always been to address the under-serviced demographics -- those who are willing to watch videos online occasionally, but haven't found content compelling enough to bring them back day after day. A key part of our business mission has been to provide inspirational groups a platform to expand their video ministries," said Kyle Borg, President and Co-Founder of BiggyTV.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church operates their own 24/7 global satellite network, which includes twelve different channels in several languages. "When we first partnered with BiggyTV we saw an opportunity to redistribute content from our satellite network. Over time, we have seen the value of creating original programming that is premiered and only seen on BiggyTV, too," commented Fred Kinsey, Assistant to the President of the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventists.
The Seventh-day Adventists have led the field of radio and TV ministries for decades with shows like It is Written, with the late George Vandeman, Really Living, hosted by North American Division President Don Schneider, and Voice of Prophecy with Lonnie Melashenko. In addition to these well-known programs, new shows are being created just for The Adventist Channel that deliver short inspirational messages, address women's issues, and relate stories of faith through tragedy and recovery.
The Adventist Channel is a specialty destination, the first that BiggyTV has designed for the inspiration community. Just like a cable channel on television, The Adventist Channel carries only the programming scheduled by the Adventists. The content is filtered into categories to make a visitor's experience simple, and intuitive. With over 5,000 church websites in the North American Adventist Group, BiggyTV's 'widgets', or mini-launchers (http://www.nadadventist.org), are placed on every home page and used dynamically to promote new shows and events within the community.
Visitors to The Adventist Channel can explore other parts of the BiggyTV Network by clicking through an icon on the Adventist Player. It's similar to changing the channel on a TV, only in this case visitors receive notification that they are moving off The Adventist Channel and through to secular programming.
"BiggyTV is especially appealing to us as a broadband video network partner because they extend the reach of our programming into syndication on their entire BiggyTV Entertainment Network," said Mr. Kinsey. The BiggyTV Entertainment Network includes a category for "Religion and Spirituality" where selected programming from The Adventist Channel can be seen.
"As we add more partners in the inspiration market, we will offer a selection of their content to all visitors on BiggyTV as well. Our goal is to be the largest distribution platform for professionally produced original entertainment, educational, and inspirational video content," comments Mr. Borg.
Beyond the obvious 'karma' points, how does BiggyTV profit from working with the inspiration community? The Adventist Channel for example, doesn't run advertising, nor does the Seventh-day Adventist church pay for BiggyTV's technology or services. BiggyTV has solved this issue by combining commerce and video, without the need for advertising revenue, when they launched their own Video Shopping Network.
The BTV Shopping Network accepts traditional merchants with multiple products to promote. Once a product supplier is approved they upload a 90 - 120 second direct marketing segment. BiggyTV accepts professionally produced or user-generated videos for the BTV Shopping Network. BiggyTV handles the transaction, the merchant handles fulfillment and the revenue is split.
Taking advantage of this new venture, the Seventh-day Adventists are now producing 10 second commercials that will run in BiggyTV Widgets, and on the BTV Video Shopping Network. Additionally, they are filming 90 - 120 second product segments just like on cable shopping networks. Visitors are able to make purchases while watching the video of the products.
In this way, the Seventh-day Adventist Church and BiggyTV are able to program inspirational content commercial free, and yet provide a venue for both to earn revenue. BiggyTV hopes that this unique approach will interest other inspirational content producers, and enable million of viewers to finally find the kind of programming online that they've been missing.
BiggyTV (http://www.biggytv.com) is a broadband video network that exponentially increases distribution of quality video entertainment; educational and inspirational content far beyond the boundaries of destination websites by syndicating through 'widgets' across thousands of affiliates. In addition, it provides a unique online video shopping market place for merchants and organizations to advertise their products or services providing an affordable alternative to conventional TV spots.
