acts_as_conference Brings Together Developers for Rails Conference
Orlando not-for-profit Rails For All presents inaugural Ruby on Rails conference Feb. 8 & 9.
Winter Park, FL (PRWEB) November 19, 2007 -- Rails For All, Inc., a Florida not-for-profit dedicated to educating web developers and businesses about the benefits of Ruby on Rails - today announced the launch of acts_as_conference (actsasconference.com). The two-day event, taking place February 8-9, will draw developers from around the country to Orlando, Florida for keynote addresses, educational sessions, networking opportunities, and collaboration.
acts_as_conference will showcase a variety of speakers, including Rails specialists, Ruby experts, authors, and other veteran software developers. The headlining Charity Session features Evan Phoenix (creator of Rubinius) and Ezra Zygmuntowicz (creator of Merb). Keynote addresses are from Florida locals Obie Fernandez (CTO, HashRocket) and Dan Benjamin (CTO, Helium Report).
"For Rails developers and any other programmer interested in great technology, acts_as_conference will have it all," said Rails For All founder, Robert Dempsey. "We're fortunate to have gotten fantastic speakers like Evan, Ezra, Neal Ford, Anthony Eden, the list goes on and on. It's exciting to bring the Rails community together for this, especially with such a strong base in Orlando already. Of course, none of it could have happened without the help of Jason Cartwright and Naomi Butterfield, the AAC assistant program chairs."
Ruby on Rails has become increasingly popular among web developers, and more than a few developers in the Orlando area are turning toward the Ruby-backed framework. A thriving community of Rails-devotees and experts has sprung up in the central Florida city, as evidenced by affinity organizations like the Orlando Ruby Users Group (ORUG), of which Dempsey is a longtime member.
"With so many reasons to work with Rails, it's no surprise so many developers have focused on it," said Dempsey. "We hope to see the community continue to grow like this. Our goal is to make this an annual event, bigger each year."
