California Wine Hikes Founder to Appear on NBC-TV's Award-Winning In Wine Country Program
San Francisco Bay Area naturalist, tour guide and "winehiker" combines nature, food and wine on his popular tours.
Sunnyvale, CA (PRWEB) December 14, 2007 -- Russ Beebe, tour operator and founder of California Wine Hikes, will appear this weekend on the James Beard award-winning NBC television show "In Wine Country." Sunday evening's episode will feature a 4-minute segment in which guests take a guided tour along Picchetti Winery's Zinfandel Trail and discover more than just adventure along the way.
Company founder Russ Beebe, who bills himself as "The Winehiker," says his tours are unlike those of the typical wine touring company. "For years, I've found it simply amazing to step beyond merely noticing the plants and wildlife that live near us," says Russ. "In turn, it's fun to discover that our connections to nature are closer than we realize." Russ adds, however, that to make such connections with nature, many people don't know where to start.
"We lead busy lives," declares Russ, "and our occasional escape plans don't always allow for learning. That's why a guide who knows native plants and their interrelationships can play a key role in fulfilling our enjoyment of the wild places. Russ indeed knows more than just guiding nature hikes, and has hosted numerous wine tastings over the years. Realizing that combining hiking with wine tasting would appeal to today's active vacationer, he feels he has carved a unique niche within the tourism market.
"Simply put, the California wine country offers so much beyond the vineyard's edge," says Russ. "There are impressive hiking trails to be found all over the state's major wine regions, and I guide my guests on the best ones. We then reward ourselves with a sumptuous lunch and by enjoying the local fruit of the vine."
The 30-minute show will air this Sunday, December 16th at 9:30pm PST on NBC affiliate KNTV-11 and on NBC affiliates nationwide; check your local listings for time and channel.
