TRL Sponsors Arabic Language Training For U.S. Troops and Defense Contractors

Starting Monday, December 3, Total Recall Learning will provide U.S. troops and defense contractors with free Quick Arabic language and culture computer-based training (CBT), partially funded by a former Marine.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 3, 2007 -- Our troops and other protectors, keeping peace on the Iraqi war front, lack time for extensive formal Arabic language and culture instruction. Total Recall Learning moves to fill this gap with, Quick Arabic. Users of this program acquire a solid knowledge base of words, phrases and cultural do's and don'ts that are critical to effective communication and rapport building with local Iraqis, in one-third to one-half of the conventional study time. This project is partially funded by a civilian, who is a former Marine. The software will be available to all troops and defense contractors for free download on the company website on Monday, December 3, 2007.

"Thanks to the generosity of a private donor, we are able to provide this resource to our troops. This tool gives them the flexibility to self-select the content (one or two subject areas or the whole course). The results raise their confidence in performing their duties in the field," said Dr. Tim Becker, President and CEO of Total Recall Learning Inc., a San-Diego-based educational software firm.

Where did you see them?
Quick Arabic offers more than five hundred mission-critical Arabic terms and cultural concepts, presented in a time-staggered, multimedia learning environment. The training includes colloquial and specialized vocabulary words, such as those used for:

  • Greetings. Example: "Schló nak?" ("How are you?")
  • Instructions
  • Directions. Example: "Gu bel" ("Straight ahead")
  • Warnings
  • Tactical questioning. Examples are: "Wain shúfet huhm?" ("Where did you see them?") "Wain assiláh?" ("Where are the weapons?")
  • Intelligence operations
  • Medicine
  • Engineering

Users also learn useful cultural tips that will facilitate and maintain friendly interactions with the Iraqis. For instance, hand shaking after arrival and before departure is considered standard practice among Iraqi men, whereas both pointing a finger at someone and staring at an Arab woman would be inappropriate.
