Poker Hall of Fame David Chip Reese Dies at Age 56

The poker industry says goodbye to World Series of Poker HORSE Champion and gentleman of the sport -- photos available for purchase with proceeds to benefit the charity of Reese family choice.

Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) December 6, 2007 -- David Edward "Chip" Reese, born March 28, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio, and a 33-year resident of Las Vegas, passed early Tuesday morning. Reese showed signs of walking pneumonia and complained the night before of having flu-like symptoms. A family friend stated that Reese died peacefully during the night in his sleep.

Funeral services will be held at the Palms Northwest Mortuary & Cemetery located at 6701 N. Jones on Friday, December 7, at 2 p.m.

Stricken with rheumatic fever as a child, Reese would spend the better part of a year at home in recovery. Some suspect that the illness may have caused respiratory issues and weakened his heart valves.

The father husband, and true friend to many will be remembered for more than his accomplishments at the poker table.

Say what you will about poker players and professional gamblers, but at the mention of Poker Hall of Fame legend David "Chip" Reese, any negative stereotypes one may have seem to fly out the window. Reese was a true gentleman when it came to the sport of poker.

A regular player of the "The Big Game," Reese was an integral member of an elite group that competed at the world's highest limits. He was a regular patron of the legendary Bobby's Room located inside the Bellagio Las Vegas poker room. The etched glass enclosure was created by Bobby Baldwin and designed by professional poker players such as Reese.

His display of stamina and true grace were never more apparent to the public than during the 2006 World Series of Poker, when after several grueling sessions, and a six-hour heads-up final match against Andy Bloch, Reese became the first to capture the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. championship title.

Close friend and comrade Doyle Brunson stated after the event, "There's really no one more deserving of this title. He's got to be one of the best all around poker players I've ever known." Brunson added, "He's also just a good man."
