Gallery HD Is Cablevision's HD Channel Of The Day, As Part Of The Company's Continuing '44 Days in HD, on iO(SM) TV' Countdown

Ongoing salute to excellence in HD programming recognizes each of the 44 high-definition services iO TV customers receive at no additional cost.

Bethpage, NY (PRWEB) December 17, 2007 -- Cablevision Systems Corp. today is recognizing Gallery HD as its HD Channel of the Day, as part of the ongoing "44 Days in HD, on iO TV" countdown. Available to Cablevision's iO TV customers on channel 714, Gallery HD is dedicated to visual art and the artistic process, catering to a wide array of art lovers. Through visually stunning imagery and compelling storytelling, Gallery HD is the first and only HD channel that defines the most talked-about artists of today and tomorrow.

During the countdown, Cablevision is recognizing each of the 44 high-definition services iO customers receive at no additional cost, including all nine local professional sports teams in HD. Unlike its satellite and phone company competitors, Cablevision does not impose additional fees and charges on customers who want to "see" in HD.

"We are pleased to honor GALLERY HD as today's Channel of the Day in the '44 Days in HD, on iO TV' countdown," said John Trierweiler, Cablevision's senior vice president of product management. "GALLERY HD brings the best of the art world to life with vivid high-definition imagery and in-depth stories behind the great masters of yesterday and today."

Gallery HD programming includes:
8 p.m. CONCRETE CANVAS: MEXICO CITY (World Premier Episode)
Using only chalk and his imagination, world-renowned street artist Julian Beever creates amazing 3D artwork on sidewalks. This ten-part documentary series follows the artist as he tours art capitals such as New York, London, Paris, Mexico and Los Angeles and develops a 3D mural unique to each locale. The series also explores each city's street art scene and goes underground with local street artists to discover the innovative urban art being created in inner cities around the globe. From stenciling and wheat pasting to installations and murals, the series profiles artists who, like Keith Haring and Jean Michel Basquiat before them, use the streets as their galleries to make art more accessible to the public.

In the home of esteemed muralist Diego Rivera, Beever works to create a piece that captures the natural and surrealist beauty that is Mexico. This episode also takes viewers to "Just Writing My Name," a major street art event for graffiti writers without rules or restrictions. Viewers will also meet Joshua "The Black Window" Becuho and Seher, who create optical illusions by painting holes that invite the observer into a "vestibule for an imaginary place."

8:30 p.m. ART IN PROGRESS: TOM OTTERNESS
Gallery HD's original series, ART IN PROGRESS, follows the world's leading contemporary artists, as they actively engage in the artistic process. Each episode is a film as unique and individual as the artists themselves. The films attempt to capture a moment in an artist's career, allowing viewers to witness the moments of confusion and clarity, frustration and triumph that are an inherent part of the process.

One of today's leading public artists known for his major works of sculpture, his latest project "Tom Otterness on Broadway" can be seen in New York City.

9 p.m. BRIAN SEWELL GRAND TOUR
Andreas Palladio was the great architectural discovery of the 18th century. Brian pauses in Vicenza to feast on some of the architect's finest work and a leisurely cruise down the Brenta Canal prepares him for the very last leg of his journey.

Cablevision's high-definition line-up has more than doubled over the last year, and the company has the capacity today to deliver hundreds of channels of high-definition programming over its fully-deployed fiber optic network. More than 900,000 of Cablevision's nearly 2.6 million iO TV customers have at least one high-definition television and HD-cable set-top box in the home.

In an effort to drive consumer awareness and continued adoption of HDTV, Cablevision recently launched a retail partnership with P.C. Richard & Son, the New York metropolitan area's leading consumer appliance and electronics retailer, which allows customers to conveniently sign up for all three Optimum products -- iO TV digital cable, Optimum Online high-speed Internet access and Optimum Voice phone service -- at 35 P.C. Richard & Son retail locations in Cablevision's service territory. Cablevision is also providing its award-winning digital cable service to more than 30 store locations, so customers can experience the best in high-definition programming while they shop for a new HD television set.

Nearly 83 percent of Cablevision's cable customers are iO TV digital cable customers, the highest digital penetration in the nation. iO TV offers customers access to more than 360 channels, including 53 premium movie channels, 48 channels of commercial-free digital music, more than 1,800 titles available on demand at all times, an interactive programming guide, 44 high-definition programming services and groundbreaking interactive television applications including News 12 Interactive.
