New Juno Film Gives Songwriter Barry Louis Polisar "Street Cred"
The opening credits of Oscar-buzz movie Juno features a song by Barry Louis Polisar. Director Jason Reitman contacted the singer-songwriter for children after finding Polisar's song "All I Want is You" on iTunes. Polisar, who's been touring nationwide for 33 years, finds he has new "street cred."

Director Jason Reitman contacted the singer-songwriter for children after finding Polisar's song "All I Want is You" on iTunes. Polisar, who's been touring nationwide for 33 years, finds he has new "street cred."
That's singer-songwriter for children Barry Louis Polisar's song in the opening credits of the new Oscar-buzz movie, Juno. Polisar (http://www.Barrylou.com) wrote the song "All I Want is You" and recorded it on his second album, "My Brother Thinks He's a Banana and Other Provocative Songs for Children" in 1977.
How'd he get his song in the movie? "Pure chance," said Polisar. "Jason Reitman, the director, was looking for a song with a similar name on iTunes and sampled mine by accident. Then he just emailed me from my web site and asked me if he could use it."
"All I Want is You" is included on the soundtrack for Juno, an eclectic mix of classic rock and new music. Rhino Records recently released the music digitally and the physical album will be available in stores January 15, 2008.
While he received a modest sum for use of the song, "The real value is the street cred," said Polisar. "Plus, I've been hearing from lots of folks who had my recordings when they were kids and now because of the movie, they are discovering me again as adults."
Barry Louis Polisar is a four-time Parents' Choice Award winner who began writing and recording songs for children in 1975 with little publicity and without the benefit of a major recording label. He's been touring nationwide for 33 years, singing in schools and libraries throughout the U.S. He has released over a dozen albums and another dozen books for children.
