Artist, Ted Ellis, Featured in the Houston Citywide Exhibition and Honored by the National Black MBA Association for Black History Month

Artist, Ted Ellis, featured in the Houston Citywide Exhibition and honored by the National Black MBA Association for Black History Month

Houston, TX (PRWEB) February 1, 2007 -- On the heels of a creatively successful year in 2006, the month of February 2007 marks another strong beginning to the new year for renowned Houston-based artist, Ted Ellis. Ellis and his work will be highlighted at two major events celebrating Black History Month in Houston, Texas.

Ellis' paintings will be featured at several venues during the 11th Annual Citywide African-American Art Exhibition, sponsored by The African American Art Advisory Association (Five-A) of the Museum of Fine Arts. The Citywide Exhibition is a community outreach program that gives emerging African American artists the opportunity to display their artwork to a larger, more diverse audience. The Exhibition opens with a reception at the Farnsworth Pavilion on the campus of Rice University on February 1st. A second reception is also planned for February 16th at the Houston Area Urban League.

The venues featuring Ellis' paintings include Rice University, the Houston Area Urban League, Houston City Hall, and The Breakfast Klub restaurant. One of Ellis' signature paintings, 'Sunday Worship', will be on display at City Hall, in addition to a painting from Ellis' latest body of work, 'Healing , Hope, and Rebirth - Images of Hurricane Katrina', a powerful series of images depicting the needed process of healing, the embrace of hope, and the innate goal of rebirth for Hurricane Katrina survivors.

Expressing grave concern for the large numbers of people still displaced without housing, jobs, and medical care, Ellis, born and raised in New Orleans, is determined to make this series one of the catalysts that encourages the nation to continue supporting ongoing relief efforts there. He is currently seeking corporate sponsorship for a traveling exhibit of the series. The series includes the paintings, 'Surviving Katrina', Life Begins Anew', 'Broken Home, Broken Dreams', 'Colored Man to the Rescue', 'Hope', and 'Ready to Rebuild'. Ellis plans to continue adding to the series with unveilings during Open House events at his gallery in Friendswood, TX.
