SolarWinds New Traffic Analyzer Release Shows Rapid Customer Adoption

More than 400 deploy Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer in just 10 weeks since general availability.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 10, 2007 -- SolarWinds, a leader in network management software, today announced that more than 400 customers have deployed Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NetFlow Traffic Analyzer), a new module in the Orion Network Performance Monitor (Orion) product family. Organizations in diverse industries across the world -- including American Media, Inc., ASJ Communications, Belkin Components, University of Dundee, and S&C Electric Company, are reaping the benefits of an integrated scalable, easy-to-use network management solution at an unprecedented low cost.

Generally available for customers since December of 2006, NetFlow Traffic Analyzer enables network engineers to quickly examine Cisco NetFlow traffic data and drill down into the data to determine traffic by user, application, department, conversation, interface and protocol. The integration with Orion provides users with the deepest drill-down across traffic patterns and into device performance, resulting in extraordinary visibility of usage, performance and availability statistics. Starting at less than $900, NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is affordable for any size organization.

"Our customers have been looking for a NetFlow solution that will integrate with their existing network management infrastructure and enable them to have a holistic view of the health of their network," said Kenny Van Zant, chief product strategist at SolarWinds. "The rapid adoption of NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is another testament to the evolution of SolarWinds as the solution of choice for mid-market customers. We will continue to rapidly deliver the products that are easy to deploy and help our mid-market customers optimize their network performance."

Belkin Components Benefits from Integration
Belkin, a recognized global leader in connectivity solutions, offers a diverse product mix that provides people with seamless electronics integration in their homes, cars and on the go.

"Belkin has been using Orion for many years to monitor and manage our network," said Jeff Salisbury, senior manager IT Infrastructure, Belkin Components. "A few months ago we started evaluating NetFlow solutions and we wanted to select a product that would integrate with our existing infrastructure. SolarWinds' NetFlow product was an obvious choice due to its integration with Orion. Through a unified console we now have point-and-click access to comprehensive charts and detailed reports that deliver a clear portrait of the network traffic, thereby increasing our ability to enhance the performance, availability and security of the network."

ASJ Communications Provides Peace of Mind to Its Customers
ASJ Communications designs networks for large, Fortune 500 organizations. ASJ needed a solution that would enable them to cut costs for its customers by enabling ASJ to view and report on where traffic is being over and under utilized and how bandwidth can be optimized.

"It is critical that we have visibility into exactly what packets are flowing, what type of traffic it is and the ability to generate reports for our customers letting them know if they are having a bottleneck and more importantly what is the cause of it," said Andrew Jackson, senior network engineer, ASJ Communications. "We selected NetFlow Traffic Analyzer primarily for monitoring circuits for reliability and bandwidth to enable us to report back to our customers on the health of their network. Integration with Orion was also a key factor in our decision to select NetFlow Traffic Analyzer."

Security Critical Element for University of Dundee
The University of Dundee is one of the United Kingdom's leading universities, internationally recognized for its expertise across a range of disciplines including science, medicine, engineering and art. The University has seen some major changes in that time. The past decade has been a particularly exciting time of progression and change -- since 1994 the University has more than doubled in size, which has increased the complexity of their network and managed elements. With a very large LAN that includes 10,000 PC-type devices and more than 4,500 IP phones to manage, they must be more proactive with security measures than reactive. A critical component of their network management solution is having the ability to know what flows are going on in traffic for various reasons, identifying peer-to-peer file sharing and seeing if the network has been compromised in any way.

"We started out with the very first Network Performance Monitor tool in the Toolset and then added Orion and now NetFlow Traffic Analyzer," said Simon Bennett, senior information security specialist, University of Dundee. "SolarWinds products are not only easy to use, operate and require no training, they also enable us to quickly spot, isolate, diagnose and repair problems before they impact our users."

American Media, Inc. Optimizes Bandwidth
American Media, Inc. (AMI) is the leading publishing company in the celebrity journalism and health & fitness categories. AMI's network has business critical applications going across the LAN and it needed a solution that would enable the applications to run more efficiently and optimize bandwidth.

"American Media has a major disaster recovery initiative underway," said Scott McEwen, senior network engineer at American Media, Inc. "NetFlow Traffic Analyzer allows us to drill down to analyze specific packets across links, see where possible problems lie and as we are transferring large amounts of data across the network we can see the network performance. NetFlow Traffic Analyzer gives us the ability to report performance in real time."
