Celebrity Endorsed Website Turns Phone Bill Excise Tax Refund into Peace Movement Dividend

U.S. taxpayers looking for ways to help end the war in Iraq can now go directly to RefundsForGood.org. This new celebrity endorsed web site shows both the average taxpayer and corporations how to easily redirect their one time phone tax refund to a non-profit working to foster peace in the world.

(PRWEB) March 26, 2007 -- On the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq, two social entrepreneurs, Jon Gorham and Michael Swartz from Connecticut, have launched an E philanthropy web site to help create peace in the world: refundsforgood.org.

Corporations wanting to donate money have a great advantage with this decision, since they would be donating money already spent. And, if every individual donated their 'found' money as well, the impact could be very significant.
Swartz and Gorham created a company called Refunds for Good, Inc. and have launched an interactive web portal that shows individuals and organizations how to claim telephone tax refunds on their 2006 returns. The multi-media web site also provides visitors with a simple way to donate their phone bill excise tax refund to three exceptional non-profits working to end global conflict, promote sustainable development, as well as help the environment.

The website is endorsed by several prominent actors and comedians such as Martin Sheen, Larry Hagman ("JR"), Ed Begley, Jr. and Nate Corddry from the Daily Show. 13 Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, such as the Dali Lamai and Bishop Tutu also support the campaign.

Standard individual phone excise tax refunds range from $30-$60. Corporations wanting to donate money may also use the ROI Calculator on the site to determine their total phone bill refund. Businesses may have tens of thousands of dollars eligible to donate due to their larger phone expenses.

The phone bill excise tax refund resulted from federal court decisions regarding the phone excise tax enacted in 1898 to pay for the Spanish American War. In May 2006, the IRS decided to stop assessing the tax on most service and to refund the estimated $20 billion collected over a 41-month period.

"Corporations wanting to donate money have a great advantage with this decision, since they would be donating money already spent. And, if every individual donated their 'found' money as well, the impact could be very significant." says Refunds for Good co-founder, Jonathan Gorham, "It is a logical and easy way to fund the rising peace movement."

The phone bill excise tax refund can be redirected to one of three featured charities that promote peace, the environment, the global community. The Solar Electric Light Fund aids villages in developing nations by providing solar power. Physicians For Social Responsibility advocate for both the environment and anti-war policies. PeaceJam brings the world's youth together with Nobel Peace Laureates to enhance the peace movement by teaching the leaders of tomorrow to make an impact in their own community.

Taxpayers and corporations wanting to donate money with their phone bill excise tax refund can find more information at RefundsForGood.org.
