Some Lucky Soldiers are Sleeping Easier in Iraq

Operation Shoebox, CBS Network and participating businesses like The Healing Company are helping our soldiers in Iraq sleep a little easier with a care package donation package.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 4, 2007 -- With all of the dollars spent on hi-tech weaponry and defense equipment, it's a shame that nobody thought about the comfort of our troops. Forced to sleep in hot, stressful and often noisy conditions, many of our troops are lacking the quality sleep they need to remain alert and perform their best. To make matters worse many of the American men and women serving our country overseas are sleeping on little more than a mat and the ground.

Luckily for some soldiers, non-profit organization Operation Shoebox has teamed up with memory foam mattress supplier The Healing Company (Healco.com), to donate bed toppers to soldiers in Iraq. Operation Shoebox has already sent over 200,000 care packages to our soldiers overseas and with the help of the CBS Network as well as participating business like The Healing Company hopes to send thousands more.

On April 2, 2007, CBS ran a story on the 5 o'clock news in San Diego to promote the Healco.com memory foam topper donation program. According to Sergeant Clayton Cherry in his interview with CBS KFMB San Diego, "Some places have only existed for a short time. They don't have beds yet, they still have cots. Before they get the cots, they have their sleeping bag on a sleeping mat on the ground."

Conditions like this are what inspired Healco.com owner Todd Harmon to join Operation ShoeBox's care package program. Here is how it works. For every 10 toppers or two mattresses purchased on http://www.healco.com, the healing company has been donating one topper to a soldier in Iraq. The more customers that support the program the more The Healing Company can support the troops, literally.

Memory Foam was first developed by NASA to cradle and support astronauts' bodies while making their difficult launch into space. This unique pressure absorbing material was never actually used in the space craft but was quickly re-created in the form of hospital and home use beds. Its unique pressure absorbing properties make memory foam an ideal sleeping surface.

In his interview with CBS, Sergeant Cherry made it clear that memory foam mattress pads helped with mission readiness but are not a necessity of battle. He was however very pleased to know that some Americans back home have still not abandoned the troops. "Somebody cared about me, a thousand miles away and wanted me to have a good night's sleep and that means a lot," he exclaimed.

At The Healing Company, we still care and are dedicated to the continued support of our troops. If you would like to help a soldier sleep a little easier in Iraq, simply join our memory foam mattress program by making a memory foam topper or mattress purchase at http://www.healco.com.
