VA Tech Tragedy Tribute & Sincere Apology from Us
To friends and families of all who died at Blacksburg, we offer our deepest condolences and best wishes, our hopes for the future, and our sincere regret for their loss. And once again, to those who read our previous tribute in which we mistakenly named two people who were indeed safe and well amongst the dead, we apologize wholeheartedly, and ask for forgiveness.
(PRWEB) April 24, 2007 -- In the hours immediately following the terrible events at Virginia Tech last week, information was often confusing and scant. The details that came from the school to the press were often contradictory and incomplete. It has come to our attention that in our tribute to those involved in the shootings on April 16th, we mentioned the names of two people, Amanda Cahall, and Kelly Boito amongst the dear, when in fact these two people are alive and well.
We would like to extend our heartfelt apologies to both of these people and anyone who knows them who was unduly upset by the article we published, and we are truly sorry for any upset or unnecessary pain that our tribute caused.
To the thirty-two people who did die, and to those who feel the pain of this incalculable loss, we extend our utmost sympathies, and our hopes that they can recover and heal from their pain.
A week on from the shocking scenes that unfolded at Blacksburg, it is possible to look back and examine the events in a more collective way, to hope that one day we may be able to fully understand what happened and to learn to find peace with what happened. Last week, we paid tribute to all those directly involved in the tragedy including Professor Librescu and his colleagues.
We also must recognize the debt that we owe also to the people that have comforted and helped the students over the past week, offering them support and counseling. From emergency services workers to student support groups, as well as the doctors and nurses who have treated the injured and done their best to help them cope.
As the days pass, we are able to look back with less impassioned eyes, and perhaps begin to move on, to rebuild our faith in our fellow man, and to hope that we can learn to extend a hand to those around us more readily, in order to prevent such terrible events from confronting us again.
We remember with respect all of those who fell:

These 32 people who lost their lives in such terrible circumstances last week have gone to a better place, a place where they can know peace, and where their pain is over. Those who knew them will grow older without them, but they will always hold them in their hearts, and remember the joy that they shared with them. They will build upon their memories and grow in strength through the inspirations that they have given. The lives of those who died will have meaning, and their deaths, though tragic will give rise to new life, and new understanding that will live on in their name.
For all the dreadful and unforgivable tragedies that April 16th demonstrated, for all the very worst aspects of humanity that were on show, it was also a day in which we saw great heroism, terrific courage, and genuine acts of selflessness. It was a day in which the best attributes of people involved were shown, and this is what gives us hope and great comfort. As we heal, we will ask questions about what happened and why, try to understand the meaning of the days events, and discover the truths that are hidden behind what occurred.
The events of April 16th in Blacksburg, Virginia, in which so many innocent lives were so needlessly lost will live on through the years as a terrible crime and a day of absolute infamy. They will be forever the day upon which 32 innocent people, many of whom were still to young to be said to have truly lived, were cut down, but to those of us who remain, to those of us who live on, they must become a day upon which the last of these terrible events takes place, the last time we must hear of such awful events, and the last time that we must face such needless horror.
Best Wishes, and Sincerely,
Kaung Ko
