Tel Aviv, Israel (PRWEB) May 2, 2007 -- Authoress, Deborah Gelbard, will Sign Copies of her Novel, Global Dawn, at the International Digital Earth Symposium (http://www.ISDE5.org), June 5-9, 2007, San Francisco. (UC Berkeley, Pauley Ball Room, just south of the Wheeler Auditorium)

Digital Earth is the vision, first articulated by former Vice President Al Gore in 1998 (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_gore), for a virtual representation of the Earth linked to the vast global mass of digital knowledge archives. It was to unlock, for future generations, unprecedented technical and educational facilities for exploring the Earth's systems and understanding the impact of human activities upon them.

On June 5th, at the University of California in Berkeley, the 5th International Symposium on Digital Earth (ISDE5) will begin an unparalleled exploration into the realms of the Digital Earth. The five day gathering will bring together the dynamic global partnership that is the Digital Earth Community, today, including world-class representatives of industry, academia, government, and NGOs, to discuss and develop their common goals.

Among the ISDE5 participants interested in the Digital Earth concept as a stepping-stone to new global networks and dimensions will be Israeli novelist, Deborah Gelbard, whose recently published work, Global Dawn, provides unique insight into an early initiative to create a Digital Earth community for the Middle Eastern region.

Dr. Timothy W. Foresman, Digital Earth pioneer and founding member of the International Society for Digital Earth writes:
"Gelbard captures the hitherto unwritten passion of the Digital Earth Community. In the writing of Global Dawn, Gelbard draws inspiration from cartographic sources and global networking ideologies old and new. The ancient concept of Mother Earth as a central energy source is cleverly knitted to such modern philosophies as those of R. Buckminster Fuller, Donald E. Ingber and former US Vice-President, Al Gore: Fuller's theories of natural synergy (see http://www.bfi.org), Ingber's tract on the architecture of life and Gore, whose dream of constructing a Digital Earth was first developed at NASA and more recently taken up by Google Earth."

Global Dawn is the story of Reuven, a land surveyor, charged with a mission to awaken humankind to new levels of planetary information and perception. This is a man whose ideological drive is grounded in involvement with the Planet, its lines, its structure and its systems. Far from just a source of bread on his plate, Geographical Information is the springboard of all his personal aspirations; it is the force that can equalize all nations and cultures, and he plans to build a Global Information Framework to enable it to do so.

Reuven lives in a region historically viewed as the cross-roads of the World - the Middle East. He plans to build the core of his Global Information Framework in Jerusalem, a city highly charged with the spirit, culture and energies of all the world's main religions and ethnic groups.

According to Dr. Foresman: "By developing Global Dawn on the foundation of the Digital Earth, Gelbard has achieved an innovative concept: She weaves science, art, mysticism and spiritual growth into an enticing drama that combines the joy and the angst of embracing a common destiny for humankind amid grim, present-day realities. Hopefully, this novel will inspire cadres of thoughtful people, when looking towards the future, to say, 'Why not?' and 'Why not now?'"

The Fifth International Symposium on Digital Earth

The ISDE5 Program will spotlight international keynote speakers from Norway, China, Japan, New Zealand, and the European Union. Astronauts, Ambassadors, Governors, and Indian Chiefs will also provide keynotes to provoke inspired insight into the functional needs for Digital Earth technology. Agency leaders from NOAA, NASA, and the United Nations will define the governance aspects of programs that are helping evolve the Digital Earth vision. And the industry pioneers who lead the 3D Earth visualization software will present their corporate philosophies and investments for building a true Digital Earth.

Interested citizens and scientists will participate in this unique and powerful symposium for an unequaled opportunity to experience the most advanced technologies of today and help define the best paths for the future.
