ISendYouThis.com Takes the Admin out of Art For Artists and Art Gallery Owners

Artists can post pictures of their work and use tools to help them easily and effectively meet marketing tasks.

(PRWEB) May 1, 2007 -- Artists aren’t often known for their love of business admin. Now they don’t need to worry. A new website called I send you this (www.isendyouthis.com) can do all the stuff that artists hate and art gallery staff don’t always have time for.

You have to have lots of things working at once – the website, the mailing list, the exhibitions, the approaches to galleries. We do it all.
I send you this (www.isendyouthis.com) is an online art gallery, allowing contemporary art to be sold over the internet. But it’s also much, much more. The brainchild of software wizard Craig Smith and artist Frances Gynn, it’s a full professional service to artists and galleries.

The site allows artists to post pictures cataloguing their work and their exhibitions and keep track of every artwork, including limited editions. It shows where artists are exhibiting, which art gallery they’re represented by, and where the public can visit galleries or open studios. Work can be sold online, or artists can take card payments in their studio through the system.

On top of this the system compiles sales data and mailing lists, and gives access to a comprehensive list of art journalists. It allows artists to set up their own independent website, with the option of having pictures included in the online art gallery. It even gives them a set of business cards to get started with.

“For emerging artists it’s a godsend,” says Frances Gynn. “Before you have an art gallery, the art world can feel pretty brutal, and this takes a lot of the pain away. But even when you’re established, it’s a great tool for managing all your work.”

“There’s no silver bullet to getting enough exposure,” says Craig Smith. “You have to have lots of things working at once – the website, the mailing list, the exhibitions, the approaches to galleries. We do it all.”

On the site, you can browse hundreds of galleries in the UK and find out about current and future exhibitions. You can look up individual artists, view pictures from their portfolio and read their biographies. Or you can search for art randomly or by all sorts of categories – price, type or the region in which the artist works, with new categories being added each week.

“I send you this pulls together all of the art world – galleries, exhibitions and artists, so the public can find them whichever way they look,” says Smith.

Already artists are being discovered on the site. “Pictures of one of our artists' work was spotted by a San Francisco dealer last month who flew over and bought several of his paintings straightaway,” says Gynn.

But the overriding value for artists and galleries is promotion without the hassle.

Notes for journalists

The name I send you this was inspired by the conversation on colour in the book I Send You This Cadmium Red: A Correspondence Between John Berger and John Christie.

Craig Smith headed his own successful software company in the dotcom boom of the 1990s, working for finance companies and law firms. A contemporary art enthusiast, he’s now moved to Devon and spends his time doing stuff he really likes.

Frances Gynn is a rare breed – an artist with serious marketing expertise. Formerly art director of a manufacturing and retail company, she now divides her time between I send you this and her studio. Her painting is concerned with the relationship between society and the natural world.

Listings and subscriptions
Galleries and exhibitions listings are free of charge. Additionally galleries can list their artists free, displaying pictures of representative works and a link to their art gallery. Artists can subscribe to a full listing and the complete range of I send you this business services including personal domain name for £7.50/month plus VAT in the EU.
