Protest Song Raises Money for Anti-War Movement

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 9, 2007 -- Songwriter David Shaw has been selling downloads of his protest song, "Didn't Sign Up For This", to raise money for anti-war peace groups. To date, over 500 people have downloaded the song from the web site www.DidntSignUp.com.

Money from the initial downloads went to ANSWER, the group that organized the massive protest demonstrations that took place in numerous U.S. cities this past March.

Future funds raised will be donated to MoveOn.org, the internet-based political action group that has revolutionized activism. The song sells for $1.29 and visitors to the web site are encouraged to make additional financial donations directly to MoveOn.org.

"I created this internet fund raising concept as a way to use my art to encourage additional effort and activism on the part of those who hear the song and agree with its sentiments", Shaw explained. "The emotional context that music provides can be a great motivator", he added.

The song expresses the strong feelings of sorrow, anger, frustration and disbelief that many Americans feel regarding war in Iraq and articulates the feelings of betrayal felt by soldiers in the field and their countrymen at home. The anthem like chorus drives the point home:

Didn't sign up for this
Thought I'd be protecting my country from harm
Didn't sign up for this
Thought I'd be fighting for right not wrong

Since the war began, there have been hundreds of protest songs written, recorded and put up on the internet. Shaw's song though, seems to be the only one that is being tied to activist efforts and fund raising.

Shaw encourages people to leave comments on his main site or his MySpace site at: http://www.myspace.com/trac8music
