New York, NY (PRWEB) May 10, 2007 -- Providing insight into the juggernaut of dating, Glamour Magazine has announced New York-based stand up comedian and writer, Michael Somerville as one of three finalists to become the new JAKE bringing the previously anonymous monthly column of 50 years, Jake: A Man's Opinion into the public arena. Readers and CBS Early Show viewers will choose the man who will guide millions of American women on their romantic journeys starting in May at www.glamour.com/jake.
Until now, the monthly column which debuted in February 1956 was anonymous and written by a single guy about his real-life search for love, however, for the first time, the new Jake will be made public. Glamour has narrowed the field to three potential Jakes who are introduced in the June issue, online at www.glamour.com/jake, and in a three-part series on The Early Show on CBS starting May 9. Readers and viewers will make the ultimate chose for the best man for the job. The winner, based on online voting, will be revealed in the August Glamour issue. Jake: A Man's Opinion was the first relationship column written by a man for a national women's magazine. It's rivaled by only Dear Abby's nationwide column that began the same year and provided advice to readers on all matters.
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to have a real discussion with readers instead of on stage at the mike," said Michael Somerville who has appeared on Comedy Central and VH1, plus made numerous comedy club appearances nationwide. "At 34, I bring a life's journey of dating experiences with me along with a lighthearted perspective. It's one topic that I've been talking with audiences for years about and adding humor to get over the bumps. Among my friends, I'm the one that gets asked for advice about Lady Love."
A favorite on the national comedy circuit, Michael Somerville's energetic and charismatic style has left numerous comedy audiences bursting with laughter. His relationship chronicles have been captured by Comedy Central's Premium Blend, The New York Times, the 2005 season finale of The Apprentice II, VH1 (40 Greatest Pranks, Craziest Concert Moments, 100 Most Wanted Bodies), XM Satellite Radio, Starz Comedy, Nick at Night's Road Crew, and Sirius Radio. He's contributed to Glamour and has been quoted in Time and Maxim. In 2006, he was named one of ten hot comics to watch by New York's Improper Magazine. He's also represented highly successful brands including Career Builder and Carnival Cruise Lines. His cd is available at Amazon.com, CDBaby.com, Itunes.com and Michaelsomerville.com.
