Three Cyclists Set Out May 19 for Trans-America Ride for Children of Fallen Heroes

Three cyclists will depart from Pacific Beach (Crystal Pier) in San Diego on Saturday, May 19, at 2 pm for a 3,000 mile "Special Operations Bike Tour" across America to raise money for children of fallen Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel through the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides full college educations to the children of fallen special operations personnel.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 18, 2007 -- Three cyclists will depart from Pacific Beach (Crystal Pier) in San Diego on Saturday, May 19, at 2 pm for a 3,000 mile "Special Operations Bike Tour" across America to raise money for children of fallen Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel through the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (www.specialops.org).

Three friends, Sean McConnell, Richard Graham and James Campbell, all 25 years old, will set out from San Diego to Virginia Beach, Va., on their bicycles hoping to raise $100,000 for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides free college scholarship grants, not loans, to the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel killed in combat or training. The grants provided cover tuition, books, fees, room and board.

so when these children receive their college degrees it is more than just a piece of paper. It is a symbol of Americans standing by them and letting them know that the sacrifices their family made are not forgotten.
While Campbell is the only one with cycling experience, the cause is close to the hearts of all three men.

McConnell served in the Navy aboard submarines from 2000 to 2005. Graham served as a Navy SEAL from 2000 to Dec. 2006. Campbell never served in the military, but his father was a Vietnam veteran.

"I would like to bring America together in participating in this event," said Graham, "so when these children receive their college degrees it is more than just a piece of paper. It is a symbol of Americans standing by them and letting them know that the sacrifices their family made are not forgotten."

Traveling approximately 70 miles per day, the cyclists are expected to arrive in Virginia Beach, July 19. The cyclists will be traveling thoughthe following major cities: Phoenix, Ariz; Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico; Pueblo, CO; Scott City and Eureka, Kansas; Golden City and Hartville, Missouri; Ava and Goreville, Ill.; Dixon and Whitesville, Kentucky; Radford, Charlottesville and Norfolk, Va.

Anyone interested in meeting the cyclists or joining the cyclists along their route, contact Edie Rosenthal at the Special Operations Warrior Foundation at (813) 805-9400 or email edie@specialops.org.
