Eagle Ridge Launches Great Galena Balloon Race
Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, Galena, Ill., will once again host the Great Galena Balloon Race, June 15 through June 17. Now in its 7th year, the weekend-long festival, benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, launches from Eagle Ridge's North Practice Golf Course.
Galena, Ill. (PRWEB) June 1, 2007 -- Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, Galena, Ill., will once again host the Great Galena Balloon Race, June 15 through June 17. Now in its 7th year, the weekend-long festival, benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, launches from Eagle Ridge's North Practice Golf Course.
Festivities around the event kick off on Friday night, and also include live music, activity booths for youngsters, dog agility demonstrations, and food and beverage concessions. It's all topped off by a Night Glow Extravaganza, where the balloons are illuminated by their own burners. Returning this year is AleFest, offering more than 100 varieties of fine craft beer for sampling.
Other activities during the weekend include a "Crack of Dawn" hot air balloon race at 6 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, a collector's auto show and more live music.
"The Great Galena Balloon Race is one of our favorite events of the year," says Ikhlas Ahmed, general manager, Eagle Ridge. "Not only is it a good time for the whole family, but it also benefits a worthy charity."
Last year's weekend raised $10,000, the largest amount to date. To encourage a record-breaking 2007 weekend, Eagle Ridge is offering special rates of $179 per night for Inn rooms. If two nights are booked, guests receive a $25 gift certificate for gas, redeemable at Eagle Ridge's General Store.
