West Indian Parade Group Announces Large Cash Awards for 2007

The West Indian Independence Celebrations group plans to spice up their 45th anniversary parade, for the independence of many nations in the Caribbean, by offering up to a total of $5,000 in cash awards for best float, masquerade band and dance troupe.

(PRWEB) June 25, 2007 -- The West Indian Independence Celebrations group plans to spice up their 45th anniversary parade, for the independence of many nations in the Caribbean, by offering up to a total of $5,000 in cash awards for best float, masquerade band and dance troupe. They have also added a prize category for best festival song.

The song competition is on going in various clubs and churches around the City. The winner in the Song category will receive $1,000. The winner of the Masquerade band would receive $2,500; the float $1,500 and the best dance troupe will receive $1,000. The Parade will be held on Main Street Hartford, Connecticut, August 11th starting 11:00 a.m. at the corner of Albany and Main.

The Parade and a highly anticipated Saturday night Gospel Concert marks the end of an exciting week of activities beginning August 2 at 5.00 p.m. with a "carnival" on the Bloomfield Town Green. They will be music, food and entertainment for all.

The theme of the week long festival will be ‘Stand Up’. "We are standing up for economic advancement, family enrichment, educational improvements and faith initiatives," said Vice President of the organization, Reverend Gladstone Johnson.

"These are areas that we can garner broad base support and promote unity of diverse peoples living in greater Hartford," says Mike Browne, President of the West Indian Independence Celebrations.

Other events include The Taste Of The Caribbean And Jerk Festival at the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in downtown Hartford on August 4, beginning
from noon to 10:00 p.m. with live entertainment and vendors serving food from the Caribbean. This is followed by the 45th Anniversary Ball at the Hartford Hilton at 8 p.m. with live entertainers from Barbados and New York. There will be many more events including educational, historical forums and parties celebrating many Island nations.

The organization is presently accepting applications from fraternal, business and social organizations, as well as individuals representing cities and towns in and around the tri-state area. We hope to include Marching Bands, drill teams, dance troupes, Masquerade costume Bands, politicians and local businesses advertising their goods.

Completed application forms with fees must be received by August 1, 2007 to qualify for entry. No group will be accepted without a completed form.

The Parade will conclude at 3580 Main St., the old Fuller Brush Building, with judging of the participants and a free outdoor concert featuring local and International Stars.
