Former FBI Terror Expert Issues Warning: Homegrown Terror Heavy Threat

Former FBI terror expert who pursued Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan before 9/11 issues warning to Congress on homegrown terrorism.

Palisades, NY (PRWEB) July 2, 2007 -- Terry D. Turchie, of Danville, CA, one of the few recipients of the Attorney General's Award for Excellence to have garnered both counter-terrorism and counter-intelligence expertise, issued a stern warning from his Danville office on Friday, June 27 to the members of Congress who would downplay the threat of domestic terror. "It is imperative that members of Congress who fail to recognize that we are at war put their bi-focals on and take a good look at reality. We are at war and it may be difficult for some to see the paradigm shift as to the nature of this new type of war, but their colleagues who do, should educate them quickly. The London affair is a wake up call."

In a recent series of addresses to nearly 2,000 employees of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory months before the discovery of the London car bombs, Turchie reminded some of the nation's premier scientists and engineers that the threat from international terrorism is real and that America is the prime target. He urged the group to practice awareness, trust their instincts and report suspicious behavior. Learning to recognize the indicators of suspicious behavior works and it can prevent potential act of terrorism -- be it homegrown or international.

It is imperative that members of Congress who fail to recognize that we are at war put their bi-focals on and take a good look at reality. The London affair is a wake up call.
Turchie has a deep background in FBI affairs and procedures relative to counter-intelligence and counter-terrorism. Between 1999 and 2001, he testified before Congress and traveled extensively overseas with former FBI Director Louis Freeh to facilitate joint investigations of international terrorism in the Middle East, Asia and the former Soviet Union. Traveling to Turkey, India, Pakistan and several of the former Russian republics 18 months before the attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, Turchie and then FBI Director Freeh, sought cooperation for the specific pursuit and capture of Osama Bin Laden. Such action by the FBI was known to the highest members of the Executive Branch

Terry D.Turchie is a recipient of the FBI Director's Award as well as the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service. He is currently the Director for Counterintelligence and Counterterrorism for the Department of Energy's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
