(PRWEB) July 7, 2007 -- St. Andrews Golf Co. Ltd's roots date back as early as 1881. It is the last remaining Scottish golf club manufacturer, a result of the major consolidation that has gone on in the industry in Scotland during the last 50 years. St Andrews Golf Company is home to 3 of Scotland's most famous club making brands; George Nicoll; Tom Stewart and of course St Andrews Golf Co. itself.

These were the most prolific club makers (cleek makers as they were called then) of their time.

Cleek makers were blacksmiths who developed their special skills into producing golf club heads, usually supplied to others for shafting and gripping. The early hand forged clubs were not stamped with any identification marks. As demand grew for more equipment, the craft of 'cleek making' evolved and makers began to mark their iron heads with some method of identification. For some their own name sufficed, others preferred to use a symbol or 'cleek' mark. Amongst the better-known 'local' makers were Stewart, Spence, Nicoll and Gibson.

St Andrews Golf Company have combined 3 of those names under 1 roof and are the last remaining golf club manufacturer in the 'home of golf' and the last club maker in the world retaining the traditional skills to hand craft playable sets of hickory golf clubs.

The St Andrews Golf Company expert craftsmen continue to produce clubs to the exact detail that they were originally intended, dating back as far as the 1700's.

St Andrews Golf Company's premium item is a limited edition reproduction of the set of clubs Tom Stewart made for Bobby Jones when he won his Grand Slam in 1930. All these clubs are fully playable with sets being owned by the likes of Jack Nicklaus and The Duke of York, who visited the old premises during his tenure as Captain of the R&A. These sets retail for £2800.

The company doesn't stop there, it also makes a beautiful range of unique golf gifts including featherie and gutta percha balls, and hickory putters that can be personalised for the individual or corporate market.

A vast range of golf collectibles like a limited edition replica of the driver used by the great Harry Vardon, as well as examples of the most famous clubs in history; like the Spur Toe or the Rut Iron all lovingly made onsite by our craftsmen.

The personnel at St Andrews Golf Company are passionate about retaining the traditional skills of club making, a tradition that once had Scotland as the leader in the industry. The St Andrews Golf Company are striving to get back to that position and to do that they need to look forward as well as back.

The company has recently re-launched the George Nicoll and St Andrews Golf Co. brands in the modern club market, with a focus on using the very latest materials and capitalising on its long heritage in design and manufacturing.

The brand new Eden series irons from the St Andrews Golf company sets new standards of playability. A classic design but with the ultimate in feel.

A full state of the art custom fitting facility is also offered to ensure St Andrews Golf Company deliver the best possible experience and result for the golfer.

These famous brands have been used by some of the games greats. People like Henry Cotton, Bobby Jones, Densmore Shute when he won The Open in 1933 and Gene Sarazen in his heyday.
