10 MPH (Segway Across America Documentary) Traces its Roots with 20-City Theatrical Release

Defying conventions and matching big studios, 10 MPH becomes the latest success story in digital filmmaking and independent distribution. The popular and comical 10 MPH will play theatrically in 20 cities during the month of August.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 19, 2007 -- An alluring story of day to day courage and following your heart, the highly-acclaimed and award-winning film 10 MPH is returning to the road from which its inspiration came to bring the film back to the heart of America. The film chronicles the story when two aspiring filmmakers ditch soul-sucking cubicle jobs to claim a more fulfilling life and ride a Segway scooter from Seattle to Boston. Filmmakers Josh Caldwell and Hunter Weeks will be traveling with their film in an unprecedented 20-city theatrical tour from Seattle to Boston and beyond, including major theaters in Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Boston and Washington DC. The filmmakers are also bringing special engagements to smaller, locales like Paonia, CO, Lititz, PA, Brattleboro, VT, Gulf Breeze, FL, and Jackson Hole, WY. Director Hunter Weeks explains, "This film transcends the audience and its message needs to be heard. We're excited about bringing 10 MPH to audiences who rarely see true independent film."

This film transcends the audience and its message needs to be heard. We're excited about bringing 10 MPH to audiences who rarely see true independent film.
10 MPH is the latest example of a changing distribution model and a burgeoning indie film industry. Hunter Weeks and Josh Caldwell are beating incredible odds, risking everything they have, cashing in retirement and maxing out credit cards to carve out this new path in life. Unlike many filmmakers, they've secured distribution for the film, but it's not through a conventional large distribution company. They took the task on themselves by working with contacts they met in the film festival circuit. Their leap of fate has evolved into a solid track record of success and a film that's getting a lot of praise.

DVD Talk declared, "'10 MPH' contains a plucky spirit I wish more independent productions were willing to summon." It is the story of two twenty-somethings who quit their jobs to travel slowly across America via Segway to pursue their dream of becoming filmmakers. Along the way they discover a true sense of America and its people. Film Threat says, "The heart of this film are all of the different stories they hear from various people they meet on their journey. Different stories with a unified theme -- people doing what they have to do, what they were meant to do, to achieve what they most want in life and that's basically to live free and happy."

10 MPH has enjoyed accelerated success since its May 29 DVD release with thousands of DVDs sold, critical praise, and high demand on Netflix and Blockbuster.com. Now across the country 10 MPH will be seen on the big screen with filmmakers Hunter Weeks and Josh Caldwell in the audience for Q & A after each screening.
