Debut Album 'Louder, Longer, Lobster' by Trumpet Marine Now Available on iTunes
Minneapolis band Trumpet Marine's debut album "Louder, Longer, Lobster" is now available via iTunes, Napster, eMusic, Sony Connect and Rhapsody. The album was recorded for the 2007 RPM Challenge and has already received rave reviews.
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) August 30, 2007 -- Trumpet Marine didn't even exist before January 13th, 2007 and yet their debut album "Louder, Longer, Lobster" is now available from the iTunes Music Store and all other major digital music outlets. The story of the band is one that could only be written in the era of the Internet.
Trumpet Marine formed in response to the 2007 RPM Challenge (http://www.rpmchallenge.com), a website that put forth the call to musicians around the globe to record an album of at least 10 songs or 35 minutes in 28 days, February 1st through the 28th. Over 2400 solo artists and groups signed up for the challenge. Of the entrants 870 finished, sending their completed CDs into the RPM Headquarters in time for the March 1st deadline.
Among those responding to the call was Apple Valley MN native Ryan Sutter, initially as a solo musician. Interested in attempting a group album instead of a solo album, Ryan enlisted fellow local musicians Kevin Robertson, Bob Aderhold, George Greene and Rick Faber to help and Trumpet Marine was born.
Typically albums are written and recorded and polished over time, but time is the one thing the RPM Challenge does not allow for. It was a mere 6 weeks from the initial concept of Trumpet Marine to the delivery of the album. The temptation to drag out songs that were written previously and record them was strong, but Sutter believed that it was important that the album not only be recorded in 28 days, but written in 28 days as well. At midnight on February 1st, the first Trumpet Marine recording session began with Sutter working alone in his basement on what would ultimately become the song "Warm In Side".
Over the next 28 days, Trumpet Marine started to take shape. Ryan assumed the songwriting role and recorded demos and even some of the finished songs. Kevin, Bob, George and Rick all came over at various times to lay down drums, guitar, vocals, and bass. Somehow, the recording progressed. Was it turning out perfectly? Of course not, but it was definitely coming along remarkably well. When February 28th rolled around, at 11:56 PM, it was completed. The Challenge had been met. Kevin designed the cover art, Ryan mixed the album down, and a copy was dropped in the mail addressed to RPM HQ on the morning of March 1st.
Eager to share, the band posted a copy of the album on the Web and it began to garner an immediate glowing response from fellow RPM participants and other listeners. The track "Visitation" was played at RPM listening parties in New Hampshire and Chicago, in addition to their native Minneapolis. It seemed that the album, with it's combination of the eclectic and the intensely personal, the melodic and the discordant, was connecting with listeners. It was then, that the band began to realize that they had done more than meet a challenge, they had actually recorded an album to be proud of. What's more, they had formed a band worth going ahead with.
Interest in Trumpet Marine and "Louder, Longer, Lobster" has grown steadily since the RPM Challenge and the band has begun to perform in the Twin Cities area to help foster that interest. Their live show, with it's energy and passion, has been very well-received. Plans are already underway for the recording of a follow-up album, this time without the time constraints, that will serve as Trumpet Marine's "official" debut but in the meantime they're working to increase their fan-base via the Internet, live shows, the radio and by the release of "Louder, Longer, Lobster" via iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic and Sony Connect.
