Liveprocess Platform Provides New Level of Coordination During Multiple Hospital Exercises

This drill represents a new level of coordination between hospitals, and was enabled by the LiveProcess drill engine and notification functionality.

This drill represents a new level of coordination between hospitals, and was enabled by the LiveProcess drill engine and notification functionality.

Danny Strandburg, Emergency Management Specialist at The Medical Center of Central Georgia (MCCG), was very positive about the effort. "I was very, very pleased with LiveProcess," said Strandburg, who coordinated the communications drill for MCCG with assistance from the Georgia Hospital Association. "The LiveProcess platform was completely user-friendly. In an emergency, even if people aren't regular users of LiveProcess, they still are able to acclimate themselves pretty quickly to the functionality. LiveProcess saved the day as far as accurate communication is concerned."

In order to use our notification system for this drill, we set up one user from each of the hospitals in Region F to also be a user on the RCH's account. This way, the RCH could assign these people to ICS roles and notify them when the RCH ICS was activated.

Designed to test several communications systems employed by GHA and member hospitals, the drill began at 9:00 A.M. Notification went to the LiveProcess administrator at each of the Region F hospitals. By 9:01 A.M., sixteen people (eleven hospitals and the GDPH district 5-2) posted to the Event Log.

According to Strickland,"The hospitals and GHA were very pleased with LiveProcess in this drill. This was the first drill we have done using our notification system for a RCH to communicate with all the hospitals in the region. Both the notification and the event log delivered the high level of performance we expected."

Concluded Strandburg, "Generally, it's very hard for me to give instructions to twelve people at twelve hospitals via radio or phone because those are one-to-one connections, and I'd have to contact each hospital separately. With LiveProcess, it's batch information, meaning we send out notifications to all hospitals simultaneously, and that is very valuable to me. The real-time drill engine worked flawlessly, and I was thoroughly impressed."

Lynn Perkins, Drills and Exercises Coordinator for the Georgia Hospital Association, who helped coordinate the communications drill on behalf of GHA, said "The drill went really well. In fact, it was the best participation we've had yet with an RCH communications drill. This is the first time we've used the new LiveProcess notification functionality for a regional drill and it worked well for this first test.
