Chuao Chocolatier Partners with the San Diego Natural History Museum's Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibition

Chuao Chocolatier's Chef Michael Antonorsi, blended his signature Venezuelan chocolate with popular Middle Eastern spices to create bonbons that are unlike anything most chocolate lovers have ever tasted. The assortment is called "Flavors of the Region," the region being the Middle East where the scrolls were discovered.

Each box contains nine bonbons in three unique flavors.

Qumran, is named for the settlement on the coast of the Dead Sea near the site where the scrolls were found. The confection features a rosemary-infused salt butter caramel inside a milk chocolate bonbon. Rosemary is indigenous to the region, and the mild salt flavoring refers to the salty Dead Sea.

Song of the Desert is a prickly pear/tahini confection inside a dark chocolate bonbon. The name is borrowed from the Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice scroll (which will be on display at the Museum) and its flavors are popular in Middle Eastern cuisine.

Land of Milk and Honey bonbon features a pistachio-honey crunch enrobed in dark chocolate. Israel is called the Land of Milk and Honey and pistachios are popular throughout the region.

About Dead Sea Scrolls
The exhibition is scheduled to be on display at the San Diego Museum from June 29, 2007, through December 31, 2007, and is the largest, most comprehensive exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls ever assembled. It includes authentic scrolls, illuminated biblical manuscripts, ancient artifacts, landscape and aerial photography, and interactive displays about science, discovery, and exploration. Thanks to the generosity of the Israel Antiquities Authority, 24 Dead Sea Scrolls, 10 exhibited for the first time ever, will be on display over the course of the six-month exhibition. The Museum will also offer a robust educational program which will include 22 lectures by world-class scholars, films, classes and audio tours. Admission to this exhibition ranges from $10-$28.
