Ontario's Haliburton Highlands Becomes Film Festival North

The Haliburton International Film Festival is coming to the Haliburton Highlands this fall. Buoyed by the overwhelming success of their first season, screening film festival quality movies to enthusiastic Haliburton Ontario audiences, Those Other Movies is thrilled to announce this exciting new venture - the very first film festival for this small Ontario resort community.

Minden, Ontario (PRWEB) August 22, 2007 -- The Haliburton International Film Festival is coming to the Haliburton Highlands this fall. Buoyed by the overwhelming success of their first season, screening film festival quality movies to enthusiastic Haliburton Ontario audiences, Those Other Movies (http://www.haliburton-movies.com) is thrilled to announce this exciting new venture - the very first film festival for this small Ontario resort community.

Those Other Movies, a non-profit organization and active participant in the Toronto International Film Festival's Film Circuit Group, will be hosting the Haliburton International Film Festival on October 19, 20, 21, 2007. A total of 8 world-class international films will be screened at the historic Molou Theatre in Haliburton Village over the course of its 3-day run. The festival will begin Friday, October 19th with the 7:00 PM screening of the Canadian film, "Who Loves the Sun." Some of the films scheduled for the film festival weekend are, La Vie En Rose, Fido, Volver, and Rabbit Proof Fence.

"The community's response to the film festival has been truly gratifying," states Tammy Rea, a Those Other Movies committee member and president of Highlands Media Art. "Thirteen area businesses have demonstrated their support by being film festival sponsors. The Haliburton Highlands has a thriving arts community and we are certain that our film festival weekend will be a sell out," adds Rea.

Film festivals, in towns such as Kingston, Barrie, Collingwood, and Niagara on the Lake, have been running successfully for several years, creating valuable national exposure for their host communities. Each year, film festivals contribute significantly to local economies. They attract tourists during the off-season and offer local businesses the opportunity to serve a wider audience.

Adding an annual film festival to the growing list of popular Haliburton cultural events and tourist attractions will benefit many businesses in the area. One can understand just how vital tourism and the arts are to the economy of Haliburton by visiting the Haliburton Tourism Association Web site (http://www.haliburton-tourism.com), a directory for Haliburton businesses that promotes the Highlands to tourist and potential visitors. One Haliburton Tourism Association member and film festival sponsor, Ogopogo Resort, (http://www.ogopogoresort.com) a Haliburton cottage resort, is planning to promote special film festival accommodation packages to their guests.

Passes for the Haliburton International Film Festival (HIFF) are now on sale. The price is only $65.00 and allows pass holders admission to all 8 movies! A limited number of individual movie tickets may be offered for purchase at the door and will be sold on as rush tickets, if available.
