Kobe, LeBron, Carmelo, and Company are the 'Dunkadelic-Team' not the 'Dream-Team,' Says Basketball and Hip-Hop Guru Derrick E. Vaughan

Old school vs. New School debate which Olympic Team is better 1992 or 2007.Superstar players from The "Dunkadelic-Era" In America, 1984-Present will lead Team USA to gold medal in 2008

Baltimore, MD. (PRWEB) September 5, 2007 -- The basketball cultural debate will be talked about for the next year when the mens 2008 USA National Team led by Kobe, LeBron, and Melo are compared to the "Dream-Team" of Magic, Michael, and Larry, states basketball and hip-hop guru Derrick E. Vaughan, creator of the "Dunkadelic" term, and scholar of the basketball and hip-hop culture fusion over the past 20 years. It's an old school vs. new school question that will receive arguments on who's better says, he adds. Vaughan has talked to some NBA players who were exited by being associated to the "Dunkadelic" term.

There is a connection between the old and new that goes back to the year 1984. The 1984 NBA Draft that was led by Michael Jordan is considered the "Draft" that changed the NBA forever. The next year (1985) the NBA Draft lottery was put into place. 1984 was also the last year that an US Olympic team with college players would win the gold medal for basketball. That same year Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin formed the most recognized hip-hop record label in the industry when the try started Def Jam Records. It was also the play of Jordan that made the young kids of the urban American cities want "To Be Like Mike."

In 1992 Magic, Jordan, and Bird were part of the best team ever assembled with the "Dream-Team." This generation of players who come from the basketball and hip-hop culture fusion of the past 23 years can't be called the "Dream-Team" 4 or 5 they are the "Dunkadelic-Team." The "Dunkadelic" term was created 10 years ago in 1997 to be the one-word term that would define the culture of basketball and hip-hop. Kobe, LeBron, and Carmelo are players who help define the cultural-term.

Kobe Bryant turned 6 years old in 1984. Carmelo Anthony (May 29) and LeBron James (December 30) were both born during that same year, 1984. Twenty-three years later these 3 superstars who are now leaders of our National Team are representing more than their country they are also representing the culture of basketball and hip-hop. They also need to have their own identity. "Dunkadelic" is the term that defines the player of this generation.

The 5 following events in 1984 led to the birth of The "Dunkadelic-Era" In America:
1. David Stern was announced as the 4th NBA Commissioner on February 1, 1984. Mr. Stern remains the Commissioner of the league.
2. The NBA introduced the Slam Dunk contest to All-Star Weekend. Larry Nance defeated Dr. J to win the first-ever contest.
3. Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin formed Def Jam Records. Kurtis Blow the hip-hop pioneer releases the hit rap song "Basketball."
4. The "Fresh-Fests" featuring RUN-DMC, Kurtis Blow, Whodini, and the Fat Boys was the first major hip-hop concert tour in America.
5. Michael Jordan was drafted by the Chicago Bulls, and signed with Nike to produce the "Air Jordan" sneakers that would become fashion statements within hip-hop culture fashion.

Kobe, LeBron, Melo, and the rest of Team USA have been influenced by the the birth of The "Dunkadelic-Era" in 1984. They now have to deliver the gold in 2008 just like the original #23 did in 1984 and 1992.
