MillionPlacesonEarth Attempts World Record with $2 Million Prizes
Million Places on Earth, founded by Terri Crowther, a single working mother from the United Kingdom, which runs a global online travel photo competition, is attempting to bring people together to break a World record. She is encouraging the general public who both love their city and love their World to find a million unique places on earth. There will be a prize fund of $1 million with a further $1 million going to Charity, the World Food Programme.
London, England (PRWEB) September 13, 2007 -- www.millionplacesonearth.com is a photo competition that aims to showcase the most unique places on earth in the most record breaking way possible by bringing One Million pictures of unique places on Earth together, in order to produce the biggest book in the World. What's more, the prize fund stands at an incredible $1 million with a further $1 million going to charity.
The competitions' originator, Terri Crowther, 41, is South African born and now lives in Cheshire, England, with her 10-year-old twins. She sees the competition as a way for average, ordinary, everyday folk to not only show off their part of the World but also to show off their holiday snaps of places they've been to. "We live in an incredibly beautiful World and I wanted to be daring enough to bring people from across the Globe together in a unique attempt to break the World Record for the biggest book, which will comprise of one million unique places on Earth. This is a celebration of the World in which we live."
Crowther wants to encourage and inspire everyday, ordinary individuals to do something different and is calling upon people from around the World to get involved, upload their photos and break a World Record. Photos can be of both famous and not so famous landmarks, but all should have identifiable and recognizable features. Examples include buildings, bridges, statues, mountains, waterfalls and beaches.
"I believe MillionPlacesonEarth.com will attract a global audience of people who are passionate about the area in which they live and the places that they have traveled to and will be compelled for them to be represented in the biggest book on Earth," said Crowther.
Viewers are also invited to vote for their favorite images online. Online votes are collated and the image that receives the most votes each month is named Photo of the Month. The Grand Final will take place at the end of the competition when two $1 million prizes will be given away - one to the photographer who shoots the winning photo and the second million dollars to Charity. Crowther added, "As well as having some fun, breaking a World record and rallying for the chance to win $1 million, I also believe that as we collect pictures of the World in it's current form it is essential for us to invest into future generations which is why we are also looking to give $1 million to the World Food Programme, whose aim is to provide food for the hungry, around the Globe."
The competition runs until 01/01/2010. If a million unique places on earth have not been found by then, the closing date will be extended for a further two years. MillionPlacesonEarth.com has already attracted hundreds of registered users.
