Atlanta Author's Novel "An Assignment to Remember" Considered for Film

Atlanta author's novel, "Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember" considered for movie project by New York based film production company.

Acworth, GA (PRWEB) September 13, 2007 -- Atlanta native, Darlene Ford Wofford, author of "Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember," was recently contacted about a movie project based on her novel. Told through the eyes of the author's alter ego, "An Assignment to Remember" is based on true events in her life. As a novelized account of true life experiences, the names are changed to protect the innocent and the not-so-innocent. It is the first of three novels in her "Edgewise" series, with "Seven Years 'Til Sunrise" scheduled for release in 2008, the final installment to be released in 2009-10. The author was contacted earlier this week by the executive producer for a film production company based in New York.

When asked her response, she replied with a mixture of excitement and emotion. "The book was released only five months ago. I've been busy with book-signings, (see tour schedule at www.darlenewofford.com ), and preparing a resubmit for the 2nd edition printing to be released in October. The reason I decided to publish the book in the first place was to help others who have experienced similar events in their lives. A portion of the proceeds from the book/series, audio CD version, speaking engagements, film, television, and any other venues goes to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in memory of our son, Collin. My hope is the amount increases through greater exposure. My husband, Carl and I wish for the book to inspire the message to always remember the good times, never allow any less-than-good times define who one is in life, enjoy life's blessings and keep moving forward. Many have shared their experiences with me via email after reading the book. I am blessed and honored they felt comfortable enough with me and chose to open up that way, and I'm sure it helped them in doing so. My mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of others, and I've discovered the more people I touch the more positive my life becomes. Since I was contacted only Monday, all this talk about a movie may be a bit premature, but of course, I'm excited to imagine how many more could be touched, moved and inspired by our story through a film version. I've always been told that "An Assignment to Remember" would make a wonderful movie, but I wasn't concentrating on that right now. I've done several Atlanta radio interviews about the book, however I refrained from actively approaching television or the film industry until the 2nd edition printing is released."

When questioned about her reasoning behind placing such importance on the 2nd edition printing, her enthusiasm was contagious and her points well-taken. "I am so excited about the 2nd edition printing! It has a completely redesigned front AND back cover. It still has the silhouette artwork designed by our son, Cory, but it is much more colorful and eye-catching. I've also added an "Introduction" page inside the front, a "Note from the Author" inside the back, and we have corrected any typos previously overlooked. The book is much more "pulled together," both in appearance and content. The cover will make a much better first impression, and with the improvements inside it has a better chance in the marketplace. It has been submitted to both Oprah and Dr Phil. I hope the new look will catch their eye enough to read further. We all know a guest spot on Oprah's show and her stamp of approval can catapult a book to the top. The View, Ellen Degeneres, Montel Williams, and Tyra Banks--all these shows are also powerful at getting a story out to the public. Before national television, I would first like to bring the story to the local stations; i.e., FOX's Good Day Atlanta, WSB's Good People and other Atlanta shows."

The author was very quick to answer when quizzed whether she had given thought to whom might play her alter ego, Delaney Rutherford, in the film version of her novel. "Without question--Ashley Judd would be perfect for the part! I have had readers say they envisioned Ashley from the beginning chapters. That would be a dream could true…but then again this is all like a dream come true."
