PassmoreLab To Work On "Legend of the Sky Kingdom"
Africa's first full-length animation to be converted into 3D.
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 15, 2007 -- PassmoreLab, a San Diego-based 3D technology firm, has reached an agreement with Sunrise Marketing Group, a film company with offices in Cape Town and Los Angeles, to create a 3D stereoscopic equivalent of their 2D feature-length stop motion picture titled "The Legend of the Sky Kingdom."
The film, Africa's first full-length animated feature, premiered at the Durban International Film Festival in October of 2003 after years of hard work and countless hours spent overcoming the hurdles associated with producing the film.
PassmoreLab founder, Greg Passmore, is impressed by Sunrise's commitment to complete the project in the face of adversity. "It's amazing that this film was completed in Zimbabwe."
Inspired by Africa's folk artists who often use items that have been thrown away to create toys, radios, musical instruments, and art, Sunrise hired some of Zimbabwe's most talented artisans to create a memorable cast of characters and sets using found objects. Passmore says this style is a good fit for 3D viewing. "The style lends itself well to three dimensional technology. And 3D provides a way for children to emotionally connect with characters. Instead of the characters being on the screen over there it allows them to feel that they are in the characters' world."
3D is rapidly gaining popularity in Hollywood with well-known films like Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and Disney's "Meet The Robinsons" both experiencing great success with the release of their 3D versions.
"Every major studio and exhibitor is experimenting with 3D," says Passmore. "With over 700 theaters now set up to project in 3D the medium is no longer a novelty."
PassmoreLab is currently assisting Sunrise on its upcoming animated features "An African Tale" and "Once Upon An Easter" to help ensure its directorial and production processes will translate well to 3D.
"Our passion is to make phenomenal movies and Passmorelab is an amazing partner to team up with to achieve this goal," says Sunrise Producer/Writer Phil Cunningham.
Both firms are excited to bring the 3D experience to children around the world.
