Animation Producer Creates Online Presence
Two years since their first production, and following on the success
of "Life and Death in New Jersey", Channel49.net has built an impressive
library of over 50 films. Ranging from art films to spoofs and serials,
the nascent studio is carving a niche among online video producers.

A typical offering from Channel49 may be an illustrated parody twisting current headlines into silliness, or it may tackle the meaning of life with animation that changes style. Following last year's animated art-feature "Life and Death in New Jersey" which was released on DVD, Channel49.net Film has produced and made available online over 50 shorter videos. These are split between parodies and art-titles. Most are scored and/or narrated. They run the gamut from the eight-minute, noirish "The Art Detective," which ponders the passage of time within a whimsical dream-like obsession with the greatest art ever experienced to the 36 second "Secret of Life" which is no more philosophical than a voluptuous 'sim' turning a corner.
Five segments of the prophetic 1980 book "Lunacy In America" has also been animated and are available online. The work concerns an alienated stockbroker who seeks an idealized America. The individuals peopling his firm have personas borrowed from economic philosophers and Greek gods. The full text of the novel is available as well.
Also introduced this year is an 'alternative world' webzine. The articles and illustrations are purportedly from the future and are a mixture of humorous, surreal and quasi-scientific stories from a distorted variation of our universe concerning subjects such as art, mores, space-time and psychology.
It appears that there is a one-person studio behind the writing, animation, video-editing, art, music and modest web design. After years of writing and content creation there are almost 30,000 files of various types in the production library. In a world hungry for distraction this is a small serving.
