Segway of Oakland innovates turn-key Segway rental program for California Parks.
(PRWEB) January 6, 2008 -- After launching a popular daily tour of Angel Island State Park, Segway of Oakland entrepreneurs Steve Steinberg and Darren Romar have their sights set on another exciting outdoor-adventure locale: State and National Parks.
"We want to expand rental operations into the U.S. National Park Service, and we're ready to take on bigger things like Yosemite," Steinberg said. "Our goal is to work out partnerships where we supply Segway units to start your own turnkey operation, and support for when you are running the operation. We are already looking into a partnership with a concessionaire and we are excited about the Parks. We can only take on so many locations, but right now we're looking for good partnerships"
Segway of Oakland is an innovator in custom accessories and Segway Polo, and Steinberg noted the company has started more tours than any other dealer, while boasting the largest Segway tour operation in California. The Segway Angel Island Experience, launched last year, is the first Segway tour in a California state park ( www.segwayangelisland.com ), and was the first such turnkey operation. This State Park now has one of the biggest Segway Rental operations. It was a natural fit.
"We are assisting other companies in starting their own tours with joint partnerships, which worked out well at Angel Island," Romar said. "I think it shows that anyone can make money with a Segway operation, and we have the know-how to set it up and promote it."
Building Segway fleets for police departments, cruise lines and government agencies, offering training and technical support services, and providing rentals to corporations including HP, LG and Nintendo puts Segway of Oakland in a natural position to move into a consultancy role, he added.
"Keeping a small percentage of a start-up business allows us to promote it through our network of contacts, most importantly www.segway.com (the Segway manufacturer's website) and many others," Steinberg said. "Our combined websites get a lot of traffic, and we keep it as a Segway-authorized tour which opens the door to a lot more promotion."
