The puzzle-like placement of the thin stone was critical to achieve the desired aesthetic, while maintaining the functionality of the space. The client also requested custom touches including a hand-carved inlay and weathered mantel on the fireplace, and a smooth, marble finish on a countertop for dining. Complex projects, such as this, require that an experienced mason execute the preparation and stone installation, Cipriano says. "Our masons have installed over 25,000 square feet of veneer in just the past five years and are educated in the advantages of the latest stone technologies," Cipriano says. "This type of proactive approach has placed our work on the cutting-edge of advancements in masonry design."
Despite the many advantages of thin stone, the up-close appearance of depth will never equal that of, say, a four-inch stone. "But the numerous advantages in product outcome are outstanding," Cipriano says. "Thin stone opens the use of natural stone for more applications than ever before."
