Gale Celebrates National Library Week With Books and Authors Songwriting Competition

Gale announces a YouTube video contest in which songwriters will perform love songs to their favorite book or author. The winning entrant will split a $5,000 Grand Prize with a library of his or her choice.

Farmington Hills, MI (PRWEB) April 17, 2008 -- To celebrate National Library Week (April 13-19, 2008), Gale announces a YouTube video contest in which songwriters will perform love songs to their favorite book or author. The winning entrant will split a $5,000 Grand Prize with a library of his or her choice. The contest encourages booklovers to literally sing the praises of their favorite books and authors during this year's Books & Authors contest.

The contest comes on the heels of the successful launch of Gale's online resource center, Books & Authors (booksandauthors.wiseto.com). Adapted from Gale's acclaimed What Do I Read Next? print series, Books & Authors is specially designed to complement the browsing habits of today's Web user, integrating easy-to-follow menus that allow consumers to broaden and narrow their searches according to author, title or series, awards, and other criteria.

The contest will serve the same purpose, by encouraging readers to not only explore and learn more about their favorite books and authors, but to look at them in a creative way.
"The contest is aligned with Books & Authors' goal of helping readers to connect with new and interesting books," said Patrick C. Sommers, President of Gale. "The contest will serve the same purpose, by encouraging readers to not only explore and learn more about their favorite books and authors, but to look at them in a creative way."

The Books & Authors songwriting competition gives readers a chance to express their love of books in a public forum. Participants may belt out their abiding love for books and/or authors with original lyrics, using original or public domain music. The video should be no longer than two minutes in length.

The Web site librareo hosts an online community for Gale, libraries and the people who love libraries. Entrants must load their videos to the librareo group on YouTube before midnight EST on Saturday, May 31, 2008. Participants can submit as many videos as desired, provided each entry is entirely original.

By June 6, 2008, Gale will determine the top five finalists based on the creativity of the video and the originality of the sentiment. The top five videos will be featured on librareo for a nationwide vote that will be held from June 9-13, 2008.

The video with the most votes will be awarded the Grand Prize of $5,000. The songwriter(s)/performer(s) will be awarded $2,500; the other $2,500 will go to the library of the winner's choice. The winner will be announced at this year's American Library Association's Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA, from June 26-July 2, 2008. Finalists' performances will be available for viewing at Gale's booth.

In addition to the Books & Authors video contest, Gale is offering open access to 21 acclaimed resources in honor of National Library Week. Visit AccessMyLibrary.com to explore more than 100 databases containing such valuable resources as journal articles, eBooks, general reference works and primary sources on topics ranging from health and wellness to literature to world history.
